Good Morning Sue Sablepoot and a HNY to you. I am at present incubating some of your kind for the first time. Could you please tell me (if you dont find it too personal a question ) how long you took to hatch? Im not sure if your family take 19 or 21 days on average and I want to work out when to stop turning/humidity etc as I dont wish to harm your fetal relations! Thanks, Ros :D

Sabelpoot eggs take 21 days to hatch, I turn mine twice per day upto day 20.

Good luck they are lovely little birds.

Thanks VP- I am always so impatient /tetchy for the last couple of days I hoped they might be 19---Never mind.! Ros

Hi Ros,sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, too many late nights over xmas, but my first 'n-f' mum replied to you.
All I can say is we are well worth the wait ;) .What colour Sablepoots are you hoping to hatch?Obviously white (like myself)is the prettiest colour, but the others are almost as pretty  .

SS -I put 6 Lemon Milliefleur eggs in the incubaor , now nearly 1/2 way . Only 4 fertile but thats fine for this time of year and post combined..Got them now as I am in a state of winter hatching withdrawl - cold chicken as opposed to cold turkey.! Being yellow and spotted I guess they are somesort of oriental poxed cousins of yours? Funnily enough, despite being miles away I have some of your N.F.Mums offsping too, ?? your step sisters twice removed, they are a lot bigger than you , but are STUNNING birds ( a pair of Speck. Sussex.) You may have met them when you were all eggs?? Ros

Hi Ros
How are your Speckled Sussex getting on (it's such a small world!!)
It's nice to see someone else hatching sabelpoots aswell!!! you can't get much difference size wise between the two breeds :D :D

Sue

The specks are great thanks. keeping your cockerel to breed from as the pair are better colour than the ones I have.-much more of a mahogany ,mine from all different sources are not as dark. They are Doris and Boris now - sebastian was far too posh a name for a bird of mine!Ros

Hi Ros,
yes we all remember the Speckled Sussex, they are nice birds-just not quite as cute, intelligent, charming, friendly and gorgeous as Sablepoots ;) .
Ooooh, Sue our 1st 'n-f' mum also had Citronella(Lemon millefleur) Sablepoots, they are very stunning, for oriental poxed chooks  .
Shame there are only 4 fertile, when we all hatched it was very exciting. We'd been cheeping 'pipping' for a day or two,and then listening for our mum.So we'd had a chance to cheep to each other, and wonder what the world would be like.
Actually breaking the shell and getting out is hard work,we get very warm from pecking so hard. Then, when we've made a hole,we can have a sneaky spy on what's outside our egg.
Non-feather's always think we're taking a rest,er,we're not,we're checking out the lay of the land before emerging from safety.

_Hi SS----a message from Doris and Boris the Specks--they say they remember your egg very well . Did you know that you were nearly dropped and broken-luckily they said you were just caught in time -phew!Apparently you were all stored in adjacent egg trays for a few days- they wish to be remembered to you. Ros

Don;t tell them but I drop kicked one of the eggs before incubating it - was probably Sue hence why she is such a little madam!!!! :D :D :D

Funily enough the Speckled Sussex pen is opposite the sabelpoot run so their parents regually say hello, will mention to them tomorrow that their babies say hi!!!!!

OMG,I was drop kicked!!!!! I could have died  ,although it does explain why I was facing round the wrong way when it came to hatching out  .Luckily,I survived :D ,and, apparently I'm a perfect madam, which sounds better than little madam ;) .A big 'hi' to everybody, and esp mum and dad and all the other speckled sussex.

Well! I think you are all MAD !!! :o Women of my own heart ! How boring it must be to be sensible and predictable ! Can you just imagine? My family never know what I am going to say or do next - and they love me for it !! :D

Keep up the good work!

ATT>Miss S. Sablepoot----- your oriental poxed cousins hatched last night all safe and sound and kipping in incubator , what amazed me--as Ive never cooked poots before--is you pop out with tiny boots already there-cute . Ros :D

Oh wow, ickle chicks like me :D .Give them big cuddles from me,Jenny and Henny Penny.I laid a fertile egg yesterday, but 'n-f' isn't going to incubate it 'cos the dad is a pekin bantam.....not sure how I feel about that.Need a white cockerel like me very soon.Hope the ickle chicks all do well.

They SO CUTE -eating and drinking and making one hell of a racket-s'pose you did the same at that age. They send lots of love to the s'poot family. Ros (on behalf of the s'poot babies what aint learnd to rite yet!)-cos theys to yung. :D (At times I feel quite sorry for poor Tim )!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
Really pleased your booted bantams hatched, they do have lovely feathered feet at day 1....
Keep us all updated, and hope they learn to type soon

Thanks VP--- They are different to any other sort of chicks Ive cooked before-they dont walk and wobble about like normal chicks -they scuttle about at 50mph like little mice!Very funny. Ros
