Thanks VP--- They are different to any other sort of chicks Ive cooked before-they dont walk and wobble about like normal chicks -they scuttle about at 50mph like little mice!Very funny. Ros

I'll have you know we are not at all like mice-how insulting. We are far faster, pretty and fun.not like smelly mice at all.
Love to my little poxed cousins :P .

Ok you little fluffy footed hybrids of meercat and mouse------- how do I tell if you are boys or girls? To me already I THINK I have 2 of each of you . Thats looking at size ,colour feathers and combs. Do you have shorter girlie combs even at a few days than your brothers-like your distant pekin relatives etc or are you going to be complex ??? XXXX The poxed yellow kids.

Hi,so pleased my little cousins are well.Lady Sablepoots, like myself, have small, ladylike combs-does this help?Mine is fractionally bigger than my two sisters, still ladylike and not like a cockerels.Henny Penny's has the smallest comb out of us three.

Sabelpoots will have you scratching you head for a few weeks wondering if they are boys or girls you can;t tell at a few days old.

Thank you - I wont spend hours comparing comb lengths etc ! No excuse to sit there and spend hours watching them scuttle about then! Ros

of course there are very good other reasons to sit and watch them scuttle about, checking that they are all progressing normally,no one is being bullied, they're warm enough, got enough to eat, fresh water etc.
Just sit and watch them,with a G&T obviously....... :D .

Hi
Its a bit late now for you but you can try feather sexing at day old in future - if the primary and secondaries are the same length then it is a girl and if they are quite different it is a boy...
Tried it in the past but never confident enough to be sure - buts its fun to see if you are right!
Sablepoots can usually be sexed by 5 weeks. - They should have quite a different comb development.
I can always post some pictures if you are struggling.

Thanks BM , tried the feather sexing bit not convinced! They are 2 1/2 weeks now 2 are getting redder sl. bigger combs already and sl pink at wattle area , so my bet at the mo. is 2 of each! ! 1 went on loan yesterday to a friend who had 2 chicks , sadly one of hers managed to break its neck so she wanted a companion-I gave her the most boyish looking-she does know that! Ros

OH dear SS----Mother (NF) lent a friend one of us poots-shes fallen in love with him(we think a him) NOW she wants to keep it! ---AND to have the other girl of us so she has a pooty pair and Mother (NF)has a pair if our sexes are ok! She was going to sell both pairs of us-if we are- but us pootlets are far too cuddly to sell--ha ha! How can that VP do it?? !! XX The baby pootlets.

Now listen carefully my darling little poxed cousins. We were very shocked when we realised that our first 'N-F' mum was going to sell us.We chatted amongst ourselves about it and with other chooks.Henny Penny was convinced that we were being sold for being naughty, only,Henny Penny has never been naughty in her life.Well, the other chooks explained that not all 'n-f's hatch their own chooks, and, that the best chooks, like Sablepoots are very popular,so lots of 'N-F's want to buy us.
Well, our first 'n-f' mum,Sue,Victoria's Poultry checks out all other 'n-f' mums or dads that want to buy us,and will only sell to nice 'N-F'.Make sure your 'N-F' is the same, the other tip I can give you,be very snuggly with your 'N-F'if you want to stay with her, snuggle up to her,rub your heads against her hands,if someone tries to lift you away give a little squawk and try to hang on to her. Then she wont be able to part with you.Going to someone else, and, training them in proper Sablepoot care is very important,so decide amongst yourselves who is going to go on an adventure, and who are going to stay.Good luck my liitle cousins, and,do keep in touch. XXXXX

Well SS --its the 'cuddle' factor that has made the adopted NF mother decide that original NF mother is not getting boy 1 back and shes coming at w/end to steal another one of us!! Only on the condition that if original N/F mother doesnt end up with a pair we are sorted out amongst new parents so she does!!! I wonder if we get very noisy as boys or not?? Poor original N/F mother has about 10 boys yelling already!!Adopted mother N/F lives in the town and has to box her boys and bring them in at night. Bye Bye our little unspotty cousin XXX

Oh no,boy Sablepoots aren't noisy, and, they will live happily together even with other girlies,as long as they are kept together.Obviously they make a bit more noise than us ladies, but not noisy like common cockerels :D .We're rather special really........

Sablepoots are probably one of the only breeds that I have that I find the cockerels don;t fight. In the Lemon Millefleurs I have 10 ladies running around with 3 males and they all get on really well.

Sablepoots can be sexed at around 6 weeks, lemon millefleur, white and porcelain seem to be the easiest with Lavender and Gold Millefleur the worst. Great small birds but with big personalities.

It was a wrench to leave you,we were very happy with you.We do like it here though,'n-f' lydia isn't so bad.I would say you could sell her some more of us,but, when she finds us a husband,as opposed to the black bouncing bomb  ,we will have our own little chicks to coo over.
Don't feel bad about selling us,just don't sell anymore,keep all the Sablepoot's 'cos we're the best :D .
