  . Ours is for 24C rising to 31C for Friday and Saturday.

Enjoy your balmy 14C

Friday and Saturday here the wind is in the 20-30s and the temp 10-11 degC.

I don't envy you, BYM but I do envy Hen-Gen's 5mph wind.

Oh, I forgot - it's p'ing down as well.

One positive, to being hot, is the coops have been dismantled scrubbed and painted with wood preserver, all dries quickly.

28C at the moment but cloudy

I used the good weather too. Cleaned out the chickens, put up a wall mounted hose reel and caught up a “freezer lamb” for spraying with iodine because he’d managed to rip off one of his horns. Best of all, still had the time for Politics Live. But the chicks still need cleaning out. Twenty five hungry mouths (beaks?) do a lot of pooing.
Cheshire Blue is a wonderful cheese. Better than Stilton imo.

Good move, BYM. Make the best of it!

By the way, does anyone know about the Cheshire Blue? I know I'm off topic but I've forgotten how to start a new thread!

To start a new thread, click on Forums in the line under the Poultrykeeper logo at the top of the page, then go to the right section from the list of Forums, (eg, Any other discussion about chickens.) Then click on New Topic at the top of the section, fill in your title when the text box appears, and then your message below.
I expect Cheshire Blues are a locally-bred type of Bluebell hybrid, but if in doubt, why not contact the seller?

Living as we do in such diverse places, I thought this article was interesting. It made me remember the chilly beach holidays of my childhood, and especially the way that the more elderly grownups wore the same sort of clothing for a day on the beach that they would have on at home. One year at Southsea we met some friends who had the unimaginable luxury of a beach hut, and we all piled in to what was essentially a garden shed when it actually rained, drinking tea brewed on an incredibly dangerous paraffin Primus stove.

It's fascinating, thanks for posting the link Marigold.

From the age of 12 until I was 18 our family holiday was in Swanage, Dorset and we used to rent a beach hut to store all the clobber. It was always a mix of weather - sunbathing on the sand, wearing a sweater over a bathing costume playing French cricket and the mid-weekend gale which meant a gang of us used to clear the torn up seaweed from the beach.

I have a photo of my paternal grand parents who were just in their 70s when I was born, sitting in deck chairs fully dressed with Nana of course wearing a hat - a proper hat not a sun-hat. Yet their eldest daughter, my father's senior by 16 years, used to swim with us when we went to the Gower beaches when they visited. My mother, despite having been brought up in Swansea, couldn't swim.

Our holidays were at Littlehampton, and it was pretty much the same Margaid, plus some rock pooling, but the adults never removed a bit of clothing.

On Friday there were large groups of youngster all bound for Glastonbury, and what they were wearing wouldn't have made nana a scarf. Some fabulous hair colours arrayed though.

Strange isn't it those beach huts, now fetch nearly a quarter million in some places. Even more in Southwold

We didn't really have summer holidays away as my Dad was in the RN and was frequently away in any case. I do remember a week in Blackpool when my Mum came down with 'flu and spent the week in the B&B. It rained all week so no happy memories.

How is everyone coping with the heat over there? Here in my corner, we've not really been affected too much. Today, it's 21C, but there's a good bit of cloud so not blazing sunshine, and tomorrow the forecast is for the heat to peak, but again, in my corner of the country, it's only to get to about 22 or 23C. Further up, and particularly inland, it's forecast to get up to high 20's or even 30.
I'm really thankful to live so close to the coast. I've got the sea within 5 or 6km on three sides, so there's usually a gentle breeze. This is the first day I've turned on a fan, and that was more for the cats' sake than mine.

I picked the first ripe plums yesterday and (rather foolishly! ) ate seven of them for breakfast!

Hope everyone is managing ok. I've seen the weather maps of Europe and the UK, and it looks like my worst nightmare!

Screenshot of our town, Met Office forecast for tomorrow. Tuesday fairly similar. I expect BYM may have one with even more red on it.
My man concern is for the chickens. I’ve put up extra willow screen shading for them, to help block out the morning sun until the shade gets round from the trees, but that not until 3.00.

Yes - I read that. Scary. And when you think, we're not seeing the extremes other places are. A friend of mine is in Spain on holiday. They've not left their hotel because of the extreme heat where they are.

Lovely, wonderful, beautiful, soft rain since last night! Forecast said "showers", but the desperately needed rain hasn't stopped all day!
