Power came back around 5.30. Still horribly windy. Every now and then, it seems to ease off, only to come roaring back!

So, how did we all manage in the storms?
Here in Hampshire, our power went off mid-morning and the helpline said it probably wouldn’t be back on until tomorrow, but oh joy! It was restored mid-afternoon. We took Poppy out early this morning, when the wind was less than its maximum but still strong enough to make me stagger in the gusts. Poppy is only 5.5kilos and, on her long extending lead, I had the feeling she might take off and I could fly her like a kite. By teatime I had to fight to close the door of the chicken run, using two hands to bolt it. The hens had remained sheltered from the worst of the wind by the tarpaulins round some of the walls, but they were clearly alarmed by all the noise. Only one of them had managed an egg! Our neighbour’s large and sturdy wooden coop was upended but the hens appeared to be OK sheltering under the hedges.
I hope you were all OK.

We were under a red warning here, but tbh, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Possibly to do with the wind direction, maybe. I know there are trees down around the area, but thankfully, no damage here that I could see.

Horrendous here from about 10am, the noise especially. The duck house roof on the island was ripped off and ended in the lake, closely followed by the sides. Our side gate was ripped from its hinges and hurtled over the front gates and ended up in the lane, the gates are 6ft high. Four fence panels are nowhere to be seen.
In the middle of all this our neighbour's ewes displayed impeccable timing and two sets of triplets were born. All snug and warm, in the sheep sheds. Just the cattle shed suffered a bit of damage.

it was scary, having to go up and down the farmyard

The little lamb lying down is fine by the way, had literally just been born

I even put some sheets on the line to dry this afternoon, and they were still there when I went to get them in. Cats don't' like it though!

Well I braved the lake yesterday to retrieve the duck building out of the lake.
Managed to get two sides out, as they were near the edge, we had to drag them u to the side and separate sides that were attached before dragging them out, the roof defeated me as I sank up to my knees in the silt and mud, and by then I was wet and lost feeling in my legs and feet, so the other side is still in their.

And I had to get undressed outside before heading for a hot bath, at least you are just getting the pics not the muddy water, weedy smell

Envious on two counts.
1) I’d love a pond like that.
2) Not had a bath for twelve years. A major mistake when I had this cottage built. Showers are clean, efficient and green. But jazz funk on the stereo, a G and T in hand and a hot bath are just one of life’s greatest pleasures.

Great pics, BYM.

I miss a bath, HG. Last one I had about 6 years ago in a cottage we rented near Whitby. It was one of those 'slipper' baths. Got in easily enough, took me about half an hour to drag myself out.

We have two elderly friends who are about to embark on a programme of home improvements, to ‘future-proof’ their property - in other words, to make it nicer for them to live in whilst still able to enjoy it, and presumably to increase its value when they’re gone or in need of cash for the interim in the nursing home. One of the improvements consists of removing the bath and installing a ‘proper, modern walk-in shower’, since, as they say, they haven’t actually used the bath more than four or five times in the ten years they have lived there, preferring a daily shower for environmental reasons. (They also book the sort of holiday cottages that have no Wi-Fi or TV because ‘it’s so good to have a real break from all that on holiday.’)
I couldn’t help saying that, when we book a cottage, it has to have a bath so we can have our daily hot soak together, good for Tony’s stiff joints so he says, and a sociable end to a day’s walking! I did refrain from saying that some prospective purchasers might actually require a bath, or be put off by the lack of one.

See, that's something I've been thinking about. My bathroom is in dire need of renovation, and I was thinking about the future, as I get older. Sense would be a walk in shower but I've only got one bathroom, and I do know that lack of a bathtub does affect the value of a property. Also, I have a couple of almost phobias, and one of them is electric showers. (The other, as I discovered on a trip to London a few years ago, is underground trains! Absolutely couldn't go on the underground. Couldn't even watch people going in to stations!)
