We got post today, just been delivered, not all of it I suspect, but at least the junk arrived.
We will get £100 a day for each day without water, so we have been told. Happy days.

You will know when you are the centre of the universe Hen-Gen, you will get a Costa, Amazon warehouse, and a fried chicken take away, and a tattoo parlour

Well £100/day can't be bad, I'm quite surprised. However, how on earth did you manage all that time without water? I am interested to know.

That sounds like a massive offshore wind farm, I have mixed views. Although I am totally behind renewables, and we have a lot of wind turbines here on the hills in the middle of nowhere, which I find curiously reassuring, I know 2 offshore farms in the UK, both on the South Coast and I find them quite intrusive because there are so many grouped together, where there used to be blank horizons stretching forever. However, I know we have to do the right thing, so my grumbles are minor.

They supply you with lots of bottles of water daily, but because our neighbour has cattle and sheep back at her barns for winter, she got a big bowser delivered which was replaced when needed, so we had some from that as well. Does give you an insight into how hard life must be for people in drought stricken areas or with no plumbing. At least what we had was clean water, but it was bliss to jump in the shower, after just making do with a wash for a week.

Can't remember - are you CM postcode BYM?

A friend in Suffolk emailed this info:-
Chelmsford Post Office Sorting Office have 20 staff vacancies, and currently 40 staff absent from work due to Covid. There are a few areas within the CM postcode district which have had no postal deliveries for three weeks. Residents etc. are pretty annoyed !

No we are RM area, Romford sorting office. We had post on Saturday most of it put into wrong houses, good job we all know each other, but annoying when the houses aren't near each other. There are other places in the RM area that haven't had post for longer than us as well.

I’m looking forward to Episode 5 of Shetland this evening as it takes place on what the Radio Times calls ‘The remote island of Fetlar.’ I wonder if your croft will be in it, HenGen?

Excellent medical services on the islands, HenGen. Paramedic reaches injured girl on far end of remote beach in Fetlar apparently within minutes, and ambulance arrives at Lerwick similarly promptly! Better than for most of us in England.
Fetlar is so beautiful. I can see why you want to live there.

It's been bad enough here in Shropshire. My pretty weighty garden furniture is now decorating the lawn, the route I travelled to get my booster jab had just been reopened at 3pm after a fallen tree was removed and there's a smattering of snow on Clee Hill and the Ragleth Hills. We lost power from 3am but fortunately it was restored at midday, not the anticipated eighteen hours outage.

Thankfully, here I'm SE Ireland, all we had was a strongish wind and a couple of showers. There was a man killed in Northern Ireland when a tree fell on his car.

Ha ha! So Fetlar is even more beautiful, then?
How has the storm wind been for you and for Diane?
After half a lifetime exploring the Scottish Islands I know most of them to be places of unimaginable beauty to those who’ve never been. The grandeur of Skye, the prettyness of Eigg, the isolation of Jura and the seascapes and beaches of Harris all stand out. Fetlar has a gentler, and some would say less impressive appeal. It is said that you don’t choose the island but the island chooses you. May be true. Sometimes we all have to accept things as they are without questioning why.
The storm was bitterly cold and blowy. But by Shetland standards not particularly noteworthy either in strength or duration. Plenty of warm clothing including gloves and waterproof/wind proof balaclava made it OK.

I reckon that's true, HG -as soon as I found South Lochs in Lewis I was chosen. It just sucked me in.

Storm not been too bad here - only gusting to 40 mph which is fairly normal for November. Snowing all day but not settling as it has been so wet. The loch is looking refreshed.

Wasn't too bad here during the day, just gusty wind and a bit of rain, come 4pm, the wind really picked up and howled all night long, calmed down about 6.30, but on the plus side we had our first Woodcock and Snipe of the winter poking around on the lawn early

As a matter of interest Dianne, which village/township are you in?

We're in Habost, South Lochs, on the southern shore of Loch Erisort, just a few miles north of the Harris Hills of which we have a good view from our back windows. Township is correct, the rest of the UK wouldn't see this as a village.

Well that’s an idyllic location Dianne. I do miss the machair on warm, sunny days. Just lay down and let the scent of the flowers waft over you. Though not where you are I have to admit. My experience was on Tiree. Nearly had sensory overload. But I guess we can’t have everything.

Storm Barra can f*** right off, just as soon as he likes now. It's been horrific here all day. We're under an orange warning for wind since last night. I've no power, which means no heat or water. Thankfully, I've a gas cooker. Equally Thankfully, my house is well insulated, so not too cold, yet.
Pain in the backside. I hope power will be restored later - they're hoping to have it back by around 6.30.
