Poor Claude in a mess.

They have got to be the most spoiled chickens in the country Chris!!

Well something is working. Flagyl is being administered at night so it clings to the cankers and isn't washed off immediately with food. He's had his third Flubenvet in olive oil this morning. Already has a full crop and is perched on my arm crowing for the first time in a week !!! And trying to eat the buttons on my shirt.

10 minutes on and my arm is getting tired -he must be putting on weight so will weigh him tomorrow.

Got to build him up and get rid of the fungal stuff before a minor op on his tongue. Discussed with vet -£15. But he's eaten a whole tub of food and I wonder if his crop will burst ! The Flubenvet is mixed with Cod Liver Oil, not Olive as I said before, for the vitamins added into it. Pretty sure it was worms that pulled him down.

Brill!!! Everytime I see you've posted something on this thread I get the "OMG please no" feeling of dread that hes had a bad turn but well done Mr M you're obviously a dad in a million x

Really fab news - great to hear another patient doing well :) You'll have to start arm wrestling with your arm muscles getting such a daily workout

Glad to hear Claude is feeling better! Sounds as though you may be heading for the gym though Chris!!!!!!!

Thanks for your support everyone. Two egg buying canal tourists called on their return trip to buy some more of "the best eggs we've ever tasted and I used to keep chickens!" They asked how Claude was so I introduced him. That's how tame he is now. He's 'soil bathing' in the sheet we put over his cage at night at the moment. He'll get his apple treat later mixed into his food. Means he eats it all looking for pieces of apple. If anything he has so much energy now he's hyperactive. Just hope the Flagyl works.

Well, next to yours and mine, Sue!

Yes, Marigold you're right! Except I haven't got hens living in my house - oh, apart from when Tilly was ill she was in the bedroom, oh, and when Buttercup was being bullied she was in the bedroom as well..............

Update. Claude is driving me nuts! Hyperactive or what ! Have never seen such a dramatic change in a chicken in such a short time. I think the underlying problems here were stress plus a worm burden. He was so upset when he arrived and now he is happy and is completely transformed. Weight going on, crop massive, tongue even looks to be improving. He's pacing up and down behind me pecking at everything. Will have to go out during the day I think and come back in overnight and for wormer and Flagyl. If we keep him warm he will recover faster I think. Mummy bird hopes he calms down as he gets older!

Bottom can see he is a chicken and is curious as he goes past to get his feet washed (poo and food everywhere). But as he has never seen anything like him he hasn't worked out that he is a cockerel. Claude is just the 'strange thing' that lives upstairs and makes whining noises Marigold.

Just had his Flagyl. The cream fungus has gone dark grey and is flaking off the side of his inner lower beak (where the damage is to the tongue). His tongue now straightens easier as well and I've noticed that it isn't so tightly curled in his mouth. Pity Issy isn't recovering the same.

Chris do you have any bedroom left to yourself as it seems that chickens slowly taking the house over
