I have been reading these posts along with everyone else and cant wait to hear when it hatches, and although I agree with the posts that it is best to leave well alone to let it hatch itself there comes a time when if it doesn't hatch it will die and you need to decide to intervene or not.
I have had quite a lot of experience now of hatching goose eggs, and I have found that they are much harder and take much longer to get out of the shell than bantams and turkeys which I have also hatched.
After having several goes at hatching where I read all the books and set the humidity for incubation at a set level I was finding that they were just not loosing enough weight and failed to hatch. So now I weigh all my eggs and set the humidity accordingly to ensure they loose at least 13%. My last batch two weeks ago I did this and all those that lost enough weight hatched on their own. However I had one which had only lost 12%, it managed to crack the shell, but later I found out that despite making a crack it had failed to make a hole in the inner membrane and died. So I still think now if only I had checked this had pipped properly I could have maybe made a hole in the shell to allow it to breath and it would possibly have hatched?!
I know you are probally more confused now as to intervene or not - but going by my experience with goose eggs then I personally would help it if it goes much longer without any signs of pipping.
