NEED HELP FAST! RE: RESCUED GOOSE EGG!!

I check every hour and don't see the egg moving at all... is there usually a day or two of resting after in internally pips? Im starting to worry again... I have been talking to it, etc.. and nothing.

Its making peeping sounds !!! I CAN HEAR IT!!!!!!! OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SINGING BACK TO ME!!!!! ITS GONNA HATCH SOON I KNOW IT!!!!!!! OH MY GOSH.. IM SO DOING A HAPPY DANCE!!!

I can't stand the suspense much longer. I hope it hatches today and you must be soooo tired. Fingers crossed for your egg.

iv been watching this post hoping its going to be OK. Its such good news its talking to you cant wait to find out if you have a successful hatch :)

Well Gooseegg. You were up at 3.00am (forum time is Standard not Summer) to check this egg so I am impressed with your diligence. So it must have hatched, surely! I can't stand the suspense and I'm sure many others are feeling the same. What's happening now?

According to Chris and Mike Ashton's book "Keeping Ducks and Geese" domestic geese take 28-32 days-yours had some cooling off too if I recall so will need to add some for that. They also say "when the hatchling first pips the shell it is not ready to hatch. Usually it needs one or two days to complete hatching. The yolk sac needs to be drawn inside the body and blood from the veins absorbed first. If you interfere,it will bleed."
We're all rooting for you and your little one.

Thank you. I did check it at 3am.. :-) My son actually woke up crying for some reason and we ran in there to look at it.. we made our little bird noises into the little hole on the incubator. I keep thinking he must be aweful lonely because he is the only egg in there. He probably thinks he is all alone. Not hearing any other babies. :-( As of this morning. I hear little scratch noises I think.. and its wobbling just a little.

Not touching him.. but watching him alot. Still in egg. No hole. Little bit of wobbling going on. I hear a little scratch noise but no peeps. You guys are so sweet ... :-) So nice to be able to talk to someone. I would have surely messed it up even worse now if it wasn't for this forum. Thanks for caring about this little egg like I do. Im hoping to see a little hole in the egg today!

Look very closely sometimes first crack is hardly visible usually in V shape(I think goose are simular to chicks hatching)

And we've had some pip underneath out of sight. The first thing you see is the head!

But DON'T go in and pick it up to look Gooseegg.

nothing yet. It seems to be wobbling ever so often. But I haven't heard anymore peeps and there isn't a hole I can see. I guess its normal for it to take this long? Still waiting.... thank you.

any reason I should be getting worried? Is this normal? hardly moving at all. I hear no peeps since last night

I hear peeps again! Hes singing to me. So how long is too long? How long can he be in there without breaking the shell before he can't breath? When should he be coming out? do I need to make a hole? Also, the humidity is 71%. I can't get it higher no matter what I try. Does it need to be higher to soften the egg or something? I have no idea. So Ive only heard peeps last night at 8 and tonight at 8. No hole yet. Will he be ok in the morning if he hasn't put a hole in the egg yet?

As I said in my previous post humidity should be 60% Gooseegg, so it's slightly high and there is no reason to try and raise it further. The increased humidity is to stop him sticking to the inner membrane as he hatches. Air diffuses through the shell so he won't suffocate. He'll come out in his own time.

I see. Ok. I read somewhere to get it to 72% so thats numbers still on my mind. This little guy seems pretty quiet. I just went in there and heard little peeps and the egg wobbling a little. But i don't hear any taps on the shell. Isn't this the 3rd day after it internally pipped? I should be seeing a crack soon right? Ready to put a hole in it if you guys tell me I need to. Otherwise Im just gonna keep waiting. He has to hatch today or tomorrow!?

so glad he won't sufficate! I thought he only had the air that was in the shell.

Actually it can sufficate if wont brake shell in good time.I honestly do not know how long in geese. It seams that you have to made decision if you going to help or not. Please read this first before doing anything. The 3 post is most informative http://www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=88447
Personally I think that is time to make small hole in shell.

I have been reading these posts along with everyone else and cant wait to hear when it hatches, and although I agree with the posts that it is best to leave well alone to let it hatch itself there comes a time when if it doesn't hatch it will die and you need to decide to intervene or not.

I have had quite a lot of experience now of hatching goose eggs, and I have found that they are much harder and take much longer to get out of the shell than bantams and turkeys which I have also hatched.

After having several goes at hatching where I read all the books and set the humidity for incubation at a set level I was finding that they were just not loosing enough weight and failed to hatch. So now I weigh all my eggs and set the humidity accordingly to ensure they loose at least 13%. My last batch two weeks ago I did this and all those that lost enough weight hatched on their own. However I had one which had only lost 12%, it managed to crack the shell, but later I found out that despite making a crack it had failed to make a hole in the inner membrane and died. So I still think now if only I had checked this had pipped properly I could have maybe made a hole in the shell to allow it to breath and it would possibly have hatched?!

I know you are probally more confused now as to intervene or not - but going by my experience with goose eggs then I personally would help it if it goes much longer without any signs of pipping.
