It’s entirely up to all of us to decide whether or not we want to go on contributing to this forum. Speaking just for myself, I’ve found you all a huge support the past year, and it’s been good to come on here knowing it’s a safe online space where we can share anything without being exposed to ridicule or disapproval. I’m sorry if my flash of irritation this morning upset dinosaw, who has been one of our most long-term and respected members, from 2011 onwards.
Of course we all have the right to our own views and opinions. But we also have the right to feel comfortable about what we read on here, and since there is so much worrying stuff online I for one have been trying to reduce my exposure to the constant blitz of detail about it all. The article dinosaw quoted today is balanced and fair in what it’s reporting, like the rest of the coverage from the Guardian, and I have no problem with its evaluation of the virus variants and their possible effects. What got to me, though, was the feeling that we are all working so hard to support our communities and ourselves, and hanging on in there until case numbers come down, that I feel it’s not good for my own mental health to read repeated comments that imply it’s all a useless effort, from someone who isn’t personally committed to the task of getting on top of it by refusing the vaccination. That was the impression I got from the comment which he put at the top of his post. I may have been wrong about this, and if so I’m sorry. Just feeling a bit emotional and low spirited today.
Anyone got any good cartoons today to lift the mood? Please? And hey - it’s MARGAIDS BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday, Margaid! Raise your virtual glasses, everyone!
