Yesterday, I turned 60. I got a notification on my phone advising me on what extra care I need to take now that I'm in a vulnerable age group! I tell you, it was like magic! I turned into a frail old lady overnight!! :D

Happy birthday, Lady A!
I can relate to that! On Monday I turned 80, so qualify for vaccination ASAP! There have to be some advantages to being certified as a little old lady!

A very happy birthday to you both! How exciting. I hope you both had a lovely time, even with the current situation.

Hope you had as lovely a birthday as I did! I'm in a "social bubble" with dau's family, so was able to go there for a takeaway meal followed by cake made (with help) by not quite 4 year old grandson! Cake with "cweam and bluebewwies and gwapes!" :D

I have news, Marigold, but I will save it for a new post ;-) Still sorting the run...height extended, a third covered, still contemplating how to net the rest so wild birds don't get hurt and OH is making a new coop. :-)

How the other half live. How many of them will then get helicopters to ferry themselves from country estate to city I wonder. I only say that as a big estate near us was sold, and the lake was filled in to provide a helipad, which led to trees being felled to make a safe approach, two paddocks tarmacked for umpteen cars, quad bikes. Lots of astro turf replacing lawns and flower beds

Eek. Sounds horrid.
We were fortunate the last time that our village's castle was sold- it was bought by a very wealthy local couple who spent millions restoring it to its former glory & allowed the children from our little village school to use the marble indoor swimming pool for their swimming lessons. They've both now passed away & rumour has it that it'll be on the market next year...

Thank you Tweetypie for the birthday wishes.

I have been thinking since the beginning of the pandemic how fortunate I am in living in such a quiet area. I usually don't meet anyone if I go walking around here. The only thing is that the village would be very busy if the weather is dry, as it's beautiful and on the coast. There's a fabulous cliff walk, but it's insanely busy at times, with long lines of people walking along the narrow path. Sometimes, I've preferred to walk in town, parking at Tesco and doing a 45 minute loop. It's a lot safer than walking around here, as our roads are narrow and quite busy. No hard shoulders or footpaths.

A few weeks ago I went for a shortish walk which included a stretch of the Pilgrims' Way- a long distance path used by pilgrims from Winchester to Canterbury since Chaucer's time or earlier. I was horrified to discover that this stretch of the Pilgrims' Way is now a dual carriageway with - believe it or not- NO FOOTPATH!!!!!

I won't be doing that again...

I would believe it. Especially as I have just been reading about a collection of memorial trees planted by parents who have lost children to illness mainly cancer being felled by HS2. With a "we will plant some more elsewhere for you".

Just had a woman on a bus discussing her Christmas party food plans as she has 10 people coming round Christmas Eve, 12 on the day and 18 Boxing Day. People wonder why the virus is running rampant

Yes - I wonder how many people, largely female, are secretly glad NOT to have to plan and cook a meal for extended family at a time of year when they will just sit around indoors upsetting each other and not helping with the washing up!
