Coronavirus

Doesn't it just. Has anyone seen the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse yet ? Just wondering

Someone needs to lock Jon Snow up before New Years Day

This from OH
Woman came into Rainham Marshes visitor centre today " are you open tomorrow?"
" The reserve is but not the café, shop or visitor centre"
" **** blinding, where am I supposed to get food, I don't do any cooking, all the shops in Lakeside are shut to, my kids only eat Costa for breakfast"
OH only popped in to give someone a joint of meat

We were due to pick up five ex-batts next week, that is now cancelled.

This is from a FAcebook post by my nephew who is now teaching near Hook while his family are still in Clitheroe. He is an officer in the Combined Cadet Force and teaches Design and Technology. While still at Stonyhurst Colleg he single handedly made hundreds of masks for the local NHS. Posted with his permission having removed names of friends and family. I found it very moving.

“It’s all a bit surreal. As I put on my Uniform this morning and walked down to the school War Memorial, I reflected on the past 12 months. This time last year I marched through Hurst Green with Stonyhurst College CCF, not knowing it would be my last Parade with them. Fast forward to March and National lockdown 1. Being made redundant and having to find a job over 200 miles from my family. Then VE Day and VJ Day, both low key celebrations for obvious reasons. I thought of my family and the sacrifices we are making this year, the living apart and the FaceTime moments.
As I stood alone in front of the War Memorial, it occurred to me how easily we get wrapped up in our own lives. COVID, Brexit, a second lockdown, people complaining about not being able to go out and see friends, or to the pub! We wouldn’t have the power to complain or indeed protest if it were not for the sacrifices that our Soldiers sailors and Airmen & women have made.
So to my family members, my friends and all that have, and are still Serving, I thank you, and promise never to forget what you have done for us.”

I didn't post the photo that went with this - a single poppy which Matt laid at the foot of the school War Memorial. It was just too poignant.

Fantastic, love it.

Judging by Lakeside yesterday you would think things are normal. All the shops are doing click and collect and places like Next are full of people, the food shops are open for takeaway. The place is heaving, plus I felt odd man out with a mask on.
It doesn't help the new owners of Lakeside, have made all the security staff redundant from December as they will be bringing in new staff, so the Intu staff that are left have said they have just given up as everyone says "we are exempt" when challenged and they just can't be bothered.

I live in a very small hamlet of 6-8 people, depending on season. We are close to 2 villages, 1 km away in either direction. Both have a population of less than 100, average age I should guess of 70 (or even older). One of them apparently has 8 cases, one of whom is in intensive care, we discovered yesterday. The cases are amongst a group of young men (in this case, young = in their 30s). Firstly we are somewhat taken aback, secondly we are quite angry, as the old folk are so vulnerable.

Here, if you claim to be exempt from wearing a mask, you need to have a letter from your doctor confirming that, and why. In fact, some woman made a formal complaint to the Medical Council, which then had to start a formal investigation, because her doctor refused to give her an exemption letter. There was no medical reason. She just felt it "wasn't for her".

Yesterday, I turned 60. I got a notification on my phone advising me on what extra care I need to take now that I'm in a vulnerable age group! I tell you, it was like magic! I turned into a frail old lady overnight!! :D
