Coronavirus

Text came with negative result. Still 2 days more on antibiotics then back to normal, I hope! I can’t imagine why people take drugs for ‘fun’.

Oh, wonderful! So glad to hear. :-)08 :-)08

:-)08 :-)08 :-)08 So glad the result was negative. Loved the anagram by the way.

Great news Marigold. I think people are too obsessive about germs these days. Got to boost that immune system. Remember that old saying ‘we’ve all got to eat a peck of dirt’. I think anyone who keeps chickens has eaten more than a peck!
Love it bym though it’s alarmingly true. It’s not mealtimes for me. It’s sat watching TV with hummus and Pringles!

Absolutely true Hen-Gen. With everyone sterilising every work surface every 5 minutes. Washing powder that claims to kill every known virus etc. How did us oldies ever get to grow up, without all these products
When the ads started telling us to wash our hands more often, I thought "well us chicken keepers, livestock owners are way ahead of you on that one. I remember when small picking a worm out of the soil and eating it to see what it tasted like. The only ill effect was my mother asking me if I felt alright every 5 minutes for the next 48 hours

We've had (so far): Lifeboat tasked to rescue a 5 year old who had floated out to sea on a lilo. Lifeboat tasked to rescue a 6 year old who had floated out to see on a surfboard. Rescue helicopter tasked to remove to hospital a 12 yr old with smashed pelvis after jumping from a cliff to the sea and landing on rocks. Mountain Rescue and Rescue heli tasked to rescue a climber who had fallen and broken both ankles in the mountains (took a crew of 25 to rescue him!).

Message is constantly going out that there are NO LIFEGUARDS on the beaches yet, they won't be starting until next week. There was a recruitment delay because of the lockdown. But I guess everyone feels invincible and immortal until something happens.

Quite apart from the idiots jumping off the cliff, the picture of people on the beach before they were herded together had me gobsmacked. I wouldn't WANT to be on a beach that crowded under any circumstances!

Why the government think people are going to be "sensible" and also abide by the, as yet not properly functional, track and trace beats me. I'm not altering what I do because I believe the scientific advisers - the decision to lift some restrictions is political.

BTW has anyone thought that the whole Cummings thing was a conspiracy so our attention would be distracted from the lowering of food standards in the recent Agriculture Bill?

    That is brilliant.
What about the idiot from Surrey that wanted to go to the beach so he jumped into his plane and landed at RAF Anglesey which is right by the beach. At what point did he think that an RAF base would not notice an unidentified plane coming into land, or they would all be out at lunch.
Something has obviously affected his brain.
People are already starting to come and mill around Lakeside, even though the shops are closed apart from Boots, M & S , Wilkinson's and now a few coffee shops. No idea of queuing and people trying to push in

:D For a moment I thought that was an archery boss. Our field (its a rugby field) has just re-opened with a booking system so that lots of archers dont show up at the same time. When I went over on Saturday there was no-one else there, except, a dozen lads with bikes sitting on the grass in the shade under the oak tree and some older guys using the side of our container as a wall to bounce a football off. They were all very nice and moved so I could put the warning flags out but it was funny considering the best laid plans of the archery committee.
I saw a quote from Boris the other day on the front of the independent which was shocking for its unfiltered directness - it said something along the lines of we didn't have the experience of SARS to prepare us. What is political is the rhetoric of lifting the lockdown in measured stages - what will happen is already happening as fully expected without directly taking the blame for it (though I cant help but think that they are your fans Boris!). And the reason is purely economic - the department of finance are absolutely... well lets just say rather concerned!

This article from the BBC news site today brought home to me the reality of what has been happening in Shetland. HenGen, I believe you said, early on, that your husband has been prevented from travelling to join you?

We're still in "phase 1" of our easing of lockdown restrictions. This means we can meet in groups of up to 4, outside, as long as we are all within 5km of our homes. There are exceptions, like for caring for others or essential shopping or work. Yesterday, I took my mum, who's been cocooning since mid March, out for a while. She wanted to go to my dad's grave (quite a journey, trying to get her wheelchair over the gravel paths in the graveyard!!) and then we went to have tea in dau's garden. Dau got very emotional, as she and mum were close. Mum had done childminding for me from the time dau was born until I got married, when she was 9. Mum was so thrilled to see her little great grandsons again too. 2 or 3 months is an awful long time in the life of babies and small children! Mum said "I was afraid I'd never see them all again". :( I understand the reason behind the cocooning, but the mental and emotional cost has been so enormous. So, even though dau's house would have been slightly outside mum's 5km limit, I'm glad I did it. It gave everyone a huge boost. And the risk was negligible, as dau hasn't been anywhere since the beginning of March, and her husband, although he is back at work, works outdoors and distancing is easy.

From June 8, if all goes well, we will be able to have up to four meet indoors! Woo hoo! Also, we will be able to travel up to 20km!

Thanks for that Marigold. I’d not read that article before which was the best I’d read both in accuracy and painting a picture of island life. I hope when all this is over our tourism industry will recover. As you can see from the pictures it is a place of breathtaking beauty with a rich wildlife and historical interest.
As you say travel from outside was rigorously controlled and enforced in a way that can only be done in small island communities. I’ve not been off this island of 63 people since January so you have to get on with your neighbours. Nevertheless I think we’re all getting stir crazy and now a trip to Lerwick to go to Tesco, have lunch at the bistro or visit the book shop sounds like a real treat.
Even so as I sit here typing this with the sun shining, the grass a vivid green, the blue sea sparkling in the sunlight and the mist swirling about the distant cliffs I know I’m in ‘Gods Country’ and if I could never leave this place again it would not be a disaster.
