Coronavirus

Unfortunately, Margaid, words do not fail me. The sooner we get the army on to the streets the better. This is no time to be concerned about the finer points of civil liberties. Such occurrences will become more common unless they are stamped out.

Nor us. Shoot them on sight, we have just had our daily bulletin from our council, and they said that some of their volunteers have been spat at and threatened as they deliver food parcels to the vulnerable.
One person was mouthing off on a news article, that we live in a democracy, not China, therefore no one has the right to tell or make us stay indoors and we should rise up and go out en masse, as it is our basic right to go where we please, as our chances of dying are minimal
What planet is he on, apart from the one where he is probably claiming every benefit going

I am able to pretty well stay at home. just go shopping once a week locally where people are behaving sensibly (or they were the last time I went out).

My heart goes out to all the people trying to keep things running, whoever they may be and in whatever job they who encounter such disgusting idiots. I just hope that those who have to encounter the general public on the streets have adequate PPE because I am so grateful for what they are all doing.

My nephew is a Design and Technology teacher and having shared hints and tips about materials with his D&T contacts, single-handedly produced 100 masks (the plastic face shield type) which will be delivered to North West NHS frontline. Other D&T departments in schools and colleges all over the country are producing these face shields.

:-)17 :-)17 :-) to your nephew, great stuff.
I attach this pic, probably because it is connected to the virus it was practising a landing at Southend Airport, ready for delivering essentials if needed.
A friends grandparents who live at Raleigh not far from the airport, heard a tremendous noise rushed to the end of the garden, to see this C 17 Globemaster going over the house, they said it was pretty scary

Very good marigold, I guess I do that already on a bus.
Just found out my shift which I thought was 9 - 7pm is actually 8pm, oh well another office faux pas

Who do you believe Michael Gove or the people on the ground?

The BBC website reports Michael Gove as saying that most people are observing the social distancing rules but there are indications that young people are less compliant.

Police are reported as being "disappointed" at the number of people picnicking and sunbathing on Primrose Hill, and Lambeth Council are closing Brockwell Park tomorrow because there were 3,000 people, some in quite large groups. The Royal Parks have warned they may have to close Primrose Hill and Regent's Park as too many people are ignoring social distancing.

With the parks closed because of these selfish idiots, none of the people observing the rules can walk, with or without a dog, jog or take any other form of exercise in the parkas and instead have to walk the roads.

I believe my own eyes, like the walking group turning up at Lakeside this morning, to rendezvous with a minibus to take them somewhere for a ramble
I went and got the police to disperse them. Plus I had them coming over to me, asking if I was the driver, did I know where the minibus was.
Plus the report of all the second home owners trying to get on Anglesey yesterday
Oh and these walkers were all 50+ supposedly the sensible group

Guardian article from the front line by a junior doctor. One of the comments below the line says "Suddenly nobody asks whether the 'heroes' hold a UK Passport."

In spite of the lockdown, there are reports locally of quite a number of people having travelled to their holiday homes for the Easter holidays. Our police commissioner has said "Those who have travelled and are currently in their holiday homes, that is now considered your residence". In other words, they may not go home until after the restrictions are lifted! Loads of checkpoints out to make sure that exercise is being taken within 2km of your home (and police are cracking down on cyclists, some of whom were found to be 50km from home!) and also checking that your journey is essential, i.e. buying/delivering food or essential work. I've been stopped twice this week. probably get stopped again this morning, because I'm off to work.

It's about as much use as a valved mask that hasn't been fitted properly...

Every time I see someone wearing a mask incorrectly I think of a nurse or doctor who could've had that mask and not wasted it... Grrr!

I feel like that yoo nearly every time I see someone out shopping wearing one. I sometimes think "well maybe they hav a problem" but in that case they shouldn't be out!

It's always been a hobby horse of mine: people who have coughs, colds or 'flu should STAY AT HOME.

Or the people who have it below the nose, and pull it down to speak to you. Or the person walking along swinging it, and puts it on when they get on a bus or in a shop.
I really hate people who constantly sniff, I want to yell haven't you got a handkerchief

In my local chemist one of the assistants obviously didn't like wearing a mask and so once she'd moved way from the counter would pull it down, replacing it when she came back to attend to someone. Using her gloved hands of course which were than handling the prescriptions, the bags of drugs and all the behind the counter medicines...
When I was cooking breakfast in the B7B that we owned I sometime had to wear a blue glove because of the number of scratches on my hand - nearly always the right. Because I couldn't feel the grease of the bacon and other things I HAD to make a really conscious effort to keep washing my hands - with the glove on as that was what needed to be washed!

My bugbear is seeing people, on their own, in their car, driving along wearing a mask!

Have to say that during this lockdown I've been enjoying tidying up the garden. I've moved a couple of shrubs that were not happy in their surroundings ?, pulled up wild brambles in my rockery and on the outside wall of the lane, helped the OH strim the 4 foot weeds and brambles. I'm sooo missing the garden centres not being open, but did buy some bulbs from eBay, although planted too late I think (anemones). Thinking of digging out some of the large lawn to make way for a pond. OH will be glad when I'm back at work so he can do nothing again all day ?

How far apart is actually safe, do you reckon?
Out for dog walk this morning on a narrow path next to a field we met a couple with a dog. We moved out into the first bare sacrificial strip of the field, which was a good 8 metres from the path. As we passed the woman we both noticed she was wearing scent and this hung in the air for several steps as we went on our way. So some particles which had been in contact with her skin, probably round the neck and hand areas, must have been floating around for more than 8 metres in all directions. Question is, what are the chances of breathing particles of virus in the same way?
Apart from the inappropriate and revolting use of heavy scent outdoors on a beautiful Spring morning!
