Coronavirus

Got my letter today to book my vaccines online. 1st one 16 March second dose 7 June, Romford Shopping Centre.

Just me, Ruth is older than me, I am her toy boy  She had her 1st one on 18th February at a pharmacy in Forest Gate, 2nd one on 7 May. She didn't get offered a local place at all. But the pharmacy on the edge of Epping Forest, had parking space and she literally walked in, got taken straight into a doctor and walked out.
Between us and our friends we are collecting quite a collection of places that people have been to, from Colchester FC stadium, a swimming pool, the O2 arena, libraries, garden centre, Excel centre London.

At least we will have had both vaccines before we go on our sailing trip on Tenacious

Mine was Ludlow Racecourse only 7 miles away which for a rural county I thought was pretty good.

Despite getting called to the surgery every winter for a flu jab, I've still not got a date for my first jab & the government website won't let me book one :-(

I'm still waiting too. I'm too young for the current list, but I'm a Home Care worker, so should have been done with Health workers. There seems to have been some glitch, the system told my manager both that I was now registered and that I was not eligible! Several phone calls have yielded only "We'll have someone look into it and get back to you..." I just reckon I'll get done when I get done, but one lady I go to, every single time, asks me why I haven't been vaccinated yet. Meanwhile, I'm diligently taking my Vit D, Zinc & Vit C every day.

Now OH would have loved a trip to a fire station full of firemen. Salisbury Cathedral wins hands down so far on top notch place. Our area seems to be getting through them quick as OH got called when everywhere else was still doing 70 year old's as did a lot of people registered at her surgery, once it got to 60 + they were calling in 55+ as well. Hope you get yours soon Icemaiden.
7 miles away was pretty good Margaid. I got offered online, Romford our nearest shopping centre and places in Kent, nowhere else in Essex or London

If you know you’re eligible in some way, Icemaiden, you could try ringing your GP surgery direct. I got my second appointment because I’m on the Hampshire Hospitals booking portal website and they send me all my appointments by text, so I got the invitation for vaccination that way. Tony didn’t get a text, (unsurprisingly, since he’s only ever given them his landline number, not his mobile number, so they can’t text him.) However, he phoned our surgery and got an appointment the same afternoon as me, which will save a trip. If he hadn’t rung I don’t know when they’d have got round to ringing him up.

We've done our 21 days now, Hen-Gen. Shame we can't go anywhere. Stornoway outbreak up to 95 cases; although most have recovered new cases keep popping up. The main primary school in Stornoway is closed for a deep clean and our ferry is out of service for a similar reason. Buses on skeleton service while the others are cleaned. On the plus side Heb News prints a number to ring if you think you have been missed for a jab. The clinics often have vaccine left over after their sessions and don't want to waste it. Icemaiden and others should try ringing their GP or hospital.

This is one for BYM. How are people behaving on your bus?

I feel immensely grateful that so far we are completely free of it on this island. The shop will get anything you need on their weekly restock in Lerwick and will home deliver if necessary. Nevertheless the “blitz spirit” that existed first time round has given way to a kind of surly resentment. Some go off island frequently for the most spurious of reasons, basically because they’re getting stir crazy.
Personally I get sanity and comfort from my animals but for many animals are just another chore.

My local supermarket (independent) and indeed all the local shops have been strict from the outset about mask wearing. The supermarket doesn't insist you use sanitiser but it's there if you want it. It's a "one out, one in" system. All the trolleys and basket are sanitised by a member of staff. There are clear markings on the floor and notices at the checkouts - the self service basket checkouts are separate from the manned checkouts and have plastic screens between each one.
Contrast that with a reasonable sized branch of Sainsburys where I spent an hour shopping while waiting for my vision to return to normal so I could drive home. A very harassed member of staff who was keeping a tally of how many people were in the store; the trolleys were all over the place and you had to sanitise it yourself. The hand sanitiser kept getting hidden by the paper towel and I saw at least two people use the trolley sanitiser on their hands - not too good for the skin. The checkout queues were all mixed up o if you had a basket you'd end up waiting ages because you couldn't see the basket checkout was clear - I bought lots of cat food so had a trolley. The staff were getting exasperated because people weren't going to the next clear checkout because with 2 metre spacing it was impossible to see what was going on!
I usually take the opportunity to have a look round the bigger supermarkets to see what I might be missing - this time I had no choice as it was 2 1/2 hours before I was able to drive, but I used the second hour to ring my sister! I'm so glad I live in a fairly rural area where people appear to be behaving sensibly and feel sorry for those of you who have to suffer idiots.

We've been fine here out in the sticks - the Stornoway outbreak didn't start until just after Hogmanay. There had only been a handful of cases before then. People talk about being stir crazy - it's affecting the poor hens more than us. Being retired we are not accustomed to partying so have been going along just fine. Plenty to do here, gardening, photography, crafts so never bored. People are just not used to entertaining themselves any more.

Margaid, we have mainly used local shops for the last year, avoiding Stornoway when possible. Wearing face-coverings came in early here and you can't enter a shop without wearing one. People comply. Not sure what it's like in Stornoway but we'll find out tomorrow as our Tesco delivery was cancelled today because of high winds so we have to pick it up instead.

People on our buses are behaving exactly the same as they have all along, idiots. They will put a mask on to get on a bus take it off once on the bus especially if they want to talk on the phone or to someone further down the bus. The buses taking Amazon staff to work/home are the scariest, as the buses are full not a seat to be had, they seem to think it is PC to throw your mask on the floor as you get off the bus. We solved that one at the Amazon depot by sweeping them onto the parking area with a broom and when the security guard came over to tell us not to do it, politely informed him that they needed to tell their staff to dispose of masks properly, as it is not our job to endanger our lives. Covid was rampant at the warehouse at the time.
The local supermarkets, Sainsbury/Tesco don't bother to enforce anything, and it is pot luck which sanitiser goes on your hand/ trolley as the bottles are identical and not marked in any way, and are usually empty
