Cheery Pics

We ran a profitable business selling a rather specialised microcomputer in the '80s. Originally they only had a 5 Megabyte hard disc, then we went up to 15! We ceased trading in1999 because everyone wanted to upgrade their systems to avoid the year 2000 bug. Ironically any bug would not have affected 8 bit technology, especially as 16 bit with the MS-DOS operating system had been around for several years!

$5999 must have been a lot of money when ‘thinking ahead to the 80s.” I suppose you can get a reasonable laptop for less than that now- let alone the computing power of even a basic phone nowadays.
Interesting that the pic shows a glamorous young lady - 80s subtext, even an idiot can learn to use this!

I'd quite like to be carried in my coffin on a narrowboat. I'd be a bit slower than that lady though- the speed limit on the canals is a maximum of 4mph...

No worries about being late wherever you would be going, though …..

That will be me, or they will want your pin number, when your contactless wont work

Brilliant.

Something a bit different up the river today.

RRS Sir David Attenborough the polar exploration ship en route to Greenwich. There is an Arctic exhibition on in the area. Certainly a very impressive ship. Worth the wait for her to come up river

It certainly is, i believe that is the name of the submersible on board.
We didn't realise until it was on the local news that this is her maiden voyage after extensive sea trials, then she is off to work. We are on the wrong side of the Thames for afternoon pics as we get the suns glare, couple of stunning pics on PLA website of her coming through the Thames Barrier.

The ship also has a live web cam so you can follow what she is up to. Which we didn't realise

Here is Boaty Mcboatface, and the "moon pool" to allow them to take water samples whilst the boat is moving, and a nice aerial shot.

Stunning pic of the boat against the darkening London skyline. There's Boaty McBoatface, a submersible as you say. I didn't know as it's a few years ago now but I knew they'd called something Boaty as it won the vote. Quite suitable I think. :)

Thanks for posting.

Not a cheery pic, but there is a pic at the top of this article, which Margaid will particularly enjoy.
