Im making the base seperate from the coop , It'll be easyer to dismantle if I need to,
I'm using some timber from a left over decking job. It's 4" x 1, 1/2" Souther yellow pine, boards and some 4"x4" S.Y.P. , posts, The stuff you see the yanks using in 'ALL' :-)07 those chicken coop pictures on google :-)07 :-)07 . It's great stuff ;) We use it cause its 'Pressure treated' Properly , unlike the English stuff The preservative is squeezed into the wood under high pressure , so it goes all the way in , not just the first couple of mm, In the states they give you a life time warrenty on it, Its also very strong,
Costs more , but ya need less ;) , Its strength rating is also standardised , so you know what your dealing with every time. :geek:

Yes, you will need a bit in the middle preferably in contact with the coop floor so that if you crawl in the floor doesn't bow. I use sacrificial wood pieces on the ends of the legs, don't even have to be screwed on as the weight holds them in place. Also useful to set the base dead level, with slightly different thicknesses. Otherwise the coop moves out-of-true and the door hinges are strained and the catches don't line up. The sacrificial pieces rot in preference to the legs and are simply replaced periodically.

Middle brace in, That sholud hold 3 bantams/ 2 daughters :D

Looking good! Most of our houses are built on similar bases, really useful and saves your back when cleaning out! :-)08

I am wondering why the wall is black though? :D

Thats 9 of those done. I'll put the wire on when they go up , its easier to stack with no wire on. Door next and 3 roof panels they gotta be a little bigger . Lets hope the clear sky's hold , Cause I really must put a new shed up and clear the garden .

Jig is a good idea of Santa's. He's making a fine job of it -must be all the practice making kiddies toys! Looks like the weather will hold out for at least another week Castara. Bit cooler and some cloud but no rain.

Ok, New shed ( to me :D ) repaired and up , and 3 roof panels and the door frame done, door itself next then 'THE COOP' gonna buy new 8" x 4" sheet all the salvaged stuff whent mouldy over winter , I ve tried scrubing it with amonia but its still there, So i needed shelves for the shed any way and the tax man whent light on me for once this year , so 'HEY' I get to buy new 8" x4" sheet for the coop NICE :D , if youve work with new wood as opposed to old wood , You'll understand ;)

We used U nails every 10-15 cm, I might add some big washers held with screws?
