    Toxic food for chickens

Stinging nettles are good for them if dried first, very high protein, the roots are very good for male humans too. I had problems feeding poppy seeds to my quail, i noticed one seemed to really like them and then they all wanted them and fights were breaking out over access to the dish with the...

    study survey

Spirulina is effective for the treatment and prevention of avian influenza.. ‘performance of the infected chicks flock was improved at the first day of application of treatment and all over the treatment course, where the mortality rate was sharply , the feed and water consumption were...

    Great taste awards

I was thinking it might be fun to have our own great taste awards competition for our eggs, if it becomes popular it might attract sponsors with prizes but id be happy just to win first prize in the quail category, i think most people on here keep chickens so id likely be the only entry. Would...

    Funny Flock Stories

Why don’t the french eat two eggs for their breakfast? Because one egg is un-oeuf Sorry, fowl sense of humour.

    Funny Flock Stories

I met a farmer saying he’d managed to breed a chicken with three legs, i asked him what it tasted like but he didn’t know, he can’t catch it.

What is your favorite breed of poultry ?

Can quail be included in this? Also it seems a shame to exclude bantams. I won’t keep anything with Italian in anymore, very noisy and crazy libido. English whites are my favourite so far, they have a matriarchal hierarchy and if you put mealworms in their coop they form an orderly queue...

    Celadon quail

I found this interview with an American who claims to have bred the tuxedo roux celadon line which was then smuggled into europe and is still available here now. He says the celadon line came from one bird in a Canadian university which he received offspring from and bred them to his tuxedo...

    My new "posh birds"

Cluck cluck icemaiden and flock :) do you have any idea what kind of ailment might cause the eggs to become smaller? My celadon quail lay eggs about 10% smaller than other quail, i’m wondering if they have autoimmune problems because they seem to have the characteristic vit d deficiency that...

    So what do quail eat?

He is an almost blood red colour but he's the most calm natured boy quail iv’e ever hatched, i’m not sure if he’d make a particularly good vampire. My e bay egg delivery got cancelled and no more available now until possibly some in spring. Celadons have paper thin shells that don’t like being...

    So what do quail eat?

@charlesfh Wow that’s a sweet leopard gecko they have on their home page! I wouldn’t bother with their worm kit though, any container with smooth sides will do, the bigger the surface area the better. They can’t fly so lids aren’t needed and i cant see much in the way of ventilation on that kit...

What is in your chicken's first aid

Prevention is better than a cure.. #1 Boink proofing, fibreglass mesh window screen fixed on bungee cords works well for this, like an upside down trampoline. They get promptly boinked back down again without injury. #2 Fonio, for the coccidia they never get if this is included in their diet...

    Site Feedback

An egg swap section would be good, id be happy to donate quail eggs and the recipient could make a donation towards the server fund. Or it might be easier just to trade eggs for cash because of the postage and packing cost involved, maybe a percentage or fixed fee per egg towards the server fund?

    So what do quail eat?

I got this really good roo from that batch, he’s very popular with his ladies and totally chilled with me which is very unusual for a boy quail. He even crows quietly! His offspring are due for the incubator next week when the expected new blood arrives in the post, hope i get more like him. No...

    Optimal diet?

Fonio. It’s very effective for the treatment and prevention of coccidiosis, my birds all have perfectly firm deposits with no odour. And chlorella, this has a multitude of nutraceutical properties in poultry, I use it mostly for the vit d but I think it’s probably the effect it has on the...

    So what do quail eat?

Not really a food but if you keep quail indoors or want eggs over winter then i think uvb lamps are essential, the recommended one for birds is 52w @ 2.4% uvb but i was worried it wouldn’t get through my boink proofing which is easily 50% shade so i got the 24w @ 12% uvb and it works great, they...
