My 3 year old Black Rock has a lime green coloured sticky runny discharge from her vent. What could it be? She seems generally well although a bit quiet, still laying and feeding well. I have isolated her from the rest of my girls. :(

When Marigold had a bout of doing lime green droppings the vet said it could indicate a liver infection. She was treated (very indignant about that) and has been OK ever since. It wasn't runny discharge, more like rather loose poo, but it was lime green. If your girl is a bit quiet she is probably not feeling very well, remember they do their best to hide illness,

Is she still laying Bantam Bee? All our Blackrocks went before this age with abdominal infections. There is a condition called Vent Gleet of which I have no experience because it is very rare. It involves an infected secretion as you describe from the vent which smells rather bad. Vet treatment is needed on an urgent basis.

Thank you for your replies. I don't think it is smelly and today she passed some sort of fleshy matter. Also she only stopped laying yesterday, up until then she was laying every day or so..very large eggs!

We had one shed her entire oviduct Bantam Bee. They can shed their oviduct lining when it comes out like a rough pork sausage, called a 'lash', but this was a flesh egg full of yolk. When they shed a 'lash' they will normally lay again, but not if they shed the whole oviduct.
