Weather

Luck huh? Weather forecast for tonight/tomorrow is for 3 inches of snow. Even for us this is freakish. Only good thing is that it’s better than three inches of cold rain, at least as far as lambs are concerned.

Oh, that's grim! Very grim! I thought we were bad. It's not bad weather exactly. Not every day. We did have something like 48 hours rain recently, which was "challenging", but today, (so far) it hasn't rained at all. But it's cold for May! Has only stretched to just about 10C today. So, although I'm eager to get things in the garden, I'm actually thinking it's not too late yet. Not nearly too late. Except for the fact that our growing season seems to be getting shorter and shorter!

We had a frost here this morning! Fortunately the forecast had said 2C and experience here meant we expected -2C in the garden. All is in and growing, which needed every piece of fleece we had to cover them and we did indeed have a frost. The fleeces will be staying in place today as another frost is expected tomorrow. Still, at least it is sunny and the wind has dropped.

It's 8 degrees in Nottinghamshire and cloudy, although the forecast is sunshine this afternoon. Hope so. Yesterday i was dashing about in between showers to get the lawn cut.

According to the lunchtime news the previous coldest May in Gers record, set in 1997, was beaten today down from 0.5C to a new lowest of 0.3C and that could be beaten again tomorrow they say. Remember being told sunflower growers don't sow seeds until May because that's when there is no risk of frost and sunflowers are delicate- perhaps they need to re-think that date?

Today. Not a breath of wind, sun streaming down and warm. Early weeks weather all forgotten. Lambs gambolling, remaining chicks being good and dog attentive. Wild birds in a frenzy of breeding. Fulmars calling from the adjacent cliff, skuas hunting for the sick or dead and snipe drumming at dusk. Alls well with the world, or I should say, my world.
Ended up with eight lambs, three ram lambs and five gimmer lambs. Two of the rams have been castrated and will go in my freezer in November but the other one looks strong and of good type and unless he grows another head will be with me for breeding.

Today here is cold, windy and wet! I don't mind the rain, because the veg garden needs watering, and I forgot to buy a new garden hose. My hose, having stupidly left it out all Winter, has developed so many leaks that no water actually reaches the business end anymore!

The Met forecast tell us that the weather is to improve, temperature wise, around the weekend. It's been well below normal for the time of year. However, I checked the fruit trees this week, and the plum and pears have a good set of fruit. The apples are very late, and are still in full bloom, so hard to know how they will go.

Thats good news Hen-Gen, nothing like your home reared lamb.
Rained most of today, which the garden really needs, stopped at lunchtime brightened up then a thunderstorm with a downpour of hailstones. Now some steady rain to soak in. Looks like warm weather back next week.
Our apple trees are in full bloom, lots of figs this year and the gooseberries are laden, as are the currant bushes

Blimey moses! I've heard tales of ferocious heat in parts of the UK? I hope you are all coping, and all your birds are ok! I've seen a couple of FB friends reporting chicken losses, due to the heat.

It's been cloudy and cool (between 16 and 18C) here this week. Very humid though. This morning is bright and sunny, but there's a stiff breeze blowing.

Take care in the heat all.

It has been somewhat hot here 36C for the last 3 days. Not pleasant driving a bus, I can tell you. But we were allowed to take our ties off.
Couple of the hens got a bit heat stressed, in spite of hiding under shrubs all day. The coop was very stuffy in spite of the big door being open all day. OH got it cooled down a bit in the evening and made sure the two overheated ones were well looked after and all fine this morning. Thunderstorm started at 5am plenty of thunder and lightning but no rain sadly. On the plus side it is now only 26C with a breeze

So, how is the weather with you all now? We had a tremendous thunder storm during the night! Almost literally shook the house! I never minded thunderstorms until I lived in New Mexico 25 years ago. Thunder/lightening storms during the Summer are a tourist attraction there, bring artists and photographers from all over the world. They can be quite scary, because it's all fork lightening, and you just don't know where it's going to hit!

We were promised thunder storms through the night and until mid morning with torrential rain and strong winds, woke up to dry paths and garden, cloudy, no wind, then a sharp shower and hot and sunny, wind has picked up from midday though.
Hope nobody gets too much wind or rain, and it is set fair for Eastbourne next Sat for our trip to the airshow

Your storms are here - shall I send them on? [emoji16]

I've got fed up with covering the tomatoes- last lot of thunderstorms just missed us again. Might see some rain overnight which is badly needed. House temperature is 26C and the fridge and freezer are working overtime. The weather in France has changed a lot since we came here- is this permanent because it is very difficult to manage?

The climate has changed here too in the last 25 years. It's as if the seasons have shifted a bit forwards. Winters tend to be milder, and Summers are a bit wetter, I think. The coldest part of our Winter now tends to be from late January to end of February or even into March.

Got them, thanks Lady A. After getting very windy, we had to move the tomato pots round to the side of the house. At 9 .15 it just went black and we literally got sheets of rain, in sort of 10 minute spells, then it rained most of the night, sunny now with very strong wind, due to increase to 40-50mph gusts later. OH is hoping for some nice sea birds blown up the Thames when she gets to Rainham Marsh, and a few migrant waders dropped onto the pools. Me, I am just praying they don't shut the Dartford Crossing with the high winds, just causes chaos, plus I have a bus route that uses it

We've had tons of rain, with flooding in places. Not around here, thankfully. And very strong winds. Still a little windy, and dark clouds overhead, with more rain to come.

Warm, misty and sweaty here. Just spent half an hour trying to persuade my youngsters to go out through the pop hole (for the first time into the run) so I can clean them out. Not having any of it. Frantic running about, flying up onto high places but a complete refusal to step outside into the bright light and green grass. Like a re-enactment of Poltergiest (go into the light, geddit). They look at the shovel and the yard broom like they’re the predator from hell. Forced to leave them for a day or two to muster their courage.
Obviously they want me to clean out their shed in the pouring rain.

Someone who left the island last week took their 13 dogs but abandoned 25 ducks. Words fail me.

Words fail me to, have you adopted the ducks ?
Ended up with the very high winds, and blazing sunshine, luckily the bridge didn't close. only excitement on the river were 10 Terns wandering up according to OH, and a very smart Great white Egret sitting in a sheltered spot spending 5 hours preening, totally oblivious to people 5 feet away.
Of course the chickens want to see you get wet, will be the highlight of their day
