Does anyone have any idea how long you need to wait between doses for tylan? I was prescribed it for one of my hens for inflammation in her digestive system, she had it for 5 days and perked up but has started showing the same symptoms again today. The last lot of medicated water was removed on Wednesday so it has been 5 days. Is it ok to redose for another 5 days or should I leave it a bit longer?

Thanks in advance.

I think it would be back to the vet, tylan is not generally used for gastrointestinal infections in poultry. What symptoms does your chicken have and how old?

She's an ex-bat, I guess about 2.5 years old. She's quite withdrawn, very sleepy and off her food with very liquid poos. I read into tylan when it was prescribed and it is mostly for respiratory infection however is also used for necrotic enteritis, which I presumed was the diagnosis (my partner took her to the vets and couldn't remember the proper term).

Actually, I've just popped out and she is eating and drinking again. We've just had a storm so maybe the air pressure was making her feel a bit down. I may just be a bit too much of a worrier!

Hi Sian.
Glad to hear that she's looking better. That'll be a relief.
As a first port of call, if any of my ex-batts (or other hens) are looking a bit under the weather, I put some Poultry Spice into the feeder with their pellets (so all of the hens get a pick-me-up). It seems to help boost their immune system.
If the poorly hen isn't eating, I dust some dried mealworms with Poultry Spice instead, & separate her from the others so that she gets the mealworms.
I don't suppose it'll always work for everything, but it's certainly helped so far. Worth a try next time, Sian.
