The heat is on

This is a trivial matter in the scheme of things - but my pile of ironing is getting out of hand. This weather, all those lightweight cotton shirts and trousers need washing more frequently in the heat, but the idea of settling down to a steamy session of ironing does not appeal. I'm reduced to the occasional emergency shirt session, but can't seem to keep up.

Photo, please Rick, of you armed and in full kit. When you say 'it will probably be raining cats and dogs by then!" does that mean it'll be like clay pigeon shooting?

Pictures of archery, to do it justice, are always a bit of a procedural issue - especially if published to the web - due to safeguarding of young club members and you cant really draw a bow except at a club. I'd actually quite like some pictures of myself on the shooting line but it only happens at big events (I'm not a face at big events) with forms all round!
Any cats or dogs flying over the rugby field next Sunday morning will be in serious trouble! Last year we did have a family of geese that tried, at every 'end', to walk across the field and had to be shooed off.
Archery is great. All sorts of styles fro the Olympic to a bunch of old duffers 'roving'. I'll see what I can do.

“Old duffers”.Love it. Recently I referred to someone as a “poor old s*d” only to then realise that he was 5 years younger than me.
But casting my mind back I’ve realised that some folk are born old!

Oh yes Hen-Gen! I have a friend I first met 45 years ago, he's now in his eighties but apart from being a bit slower he hasn't changed a bit - still looks just as old! Everyone who knew hm back in the '70s says the same thing!

Some people are ancient by the time they're 30 ...

BTW, I tried archery; loved it but would have to do the Amazon thing to be any good - or end up a hunchback!

Despite growing up watching William Tell and being a Sagitarian it’s not something that has ever appealed.
Not thought of him in over half a century but does anyone remember Landburgher Gessler from WilliamTell?

But William Tell uses a crossbow! Yes I remember Gessler, my father loved the way he was always defeated - bit like the Sheriff of Nottingham in "Robin Hood".

Yes I remember him from my misspent youth. Loved watching William Tell, Robin Hood, Ivanhoe.
We went to a funeral recently, and when it came to the reflection moment in the service at the Crematorium, and the vicar said " I will now let you think of Jim and remember him in your own special way, we were somewhat surprised when the music started up "Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding through the glen" etc etc. You could see people looking at each other and some suppressed giggles.
Afterwards we said to his wife and daughter, "didn't realise he was a Robin Hood fan" to which we found out at the funeral directors they had asked for the music they wanted they said theme tune to Robin Hood and the funeral director did query it asking if they wanted. They were adamant that was what they wanted. What they really wanted was the Bryan Adams song from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves which isn't the theme tune, she added they did think it odd the funeral director querying it, but they thought it was the theme tune to Robin Hood and had completely forgotten the TV series, but Jim having a sense of humour would have loved it. it certainly enlivened the proceedings

Not misspent BYM! Those where the days when the goodies won and the baddies got their come-uppance 0:-)

The Lone Ranger, Casey Jones, Rawhide, Bonanza, The Adams Family, and the Munster's I could go on

Ah, Rawhide. I remember my dad coming into me and my brothers bedroom on school days and singing “Head em up, move em out, move em out, head em up Rawhide”

I’m afraid that early exposure to Landburgher Gessler has left me with an ambivalent attitude to obese people. It’s not funny and it’s not clever. Well actually ........................!

I just looked up the info on the TV series William Tell and found it was filmed in Snowdonia around Llyn Padarn, and Sid James and Michael Crawford each appeared in one episode.
BTW I have Thunderbirds as a ringtone on my phone, yes it does the full 5-4-3-2-1 bit.

On the Youtube link to the Robin Hood song, I liked the comment giving a new version of the words and providing a lovely mental image of Rick;
"Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of hens...."

Bronco Layne, Wyatt Earp and Maverick!. I had a serious crush on Ty Hardin who played Bronco Layne probably because it was one of the first television programmes I saw. My father rented a television in time for my 7th birthday party and we all sat on the floor to watch it!

Just wondering if Rick might have a friend called Friar Duck :-)
