Hi there
i am looking to keep something a little different to the norm. I already have chickens, ducks, japanese quail and golden pheasants but am getting a little bored!! I have an average size garden with close neighbours (so nothing too loud!!) i have a small 6x3 aviary, a larger 10x10 pen, a shed with lots of smaller cages in it and the rest of the garden for free rangers!. I would like something that would either lay edible eggs or something that i can breed and sell.
Has anyone got any good ideas??
Thanks for any suggestions

Hmm if it wasn't for the noise, the size of your garden I'd be shouting out "Geese". They are so clever and inquisitve and can become very tame.

But under the circumtances, I'd think of different breeds of what you already have as their characters can be so different. Asian hard feather breeds have interested me in the last couple of years and then there's the tiny little Sablepoots that are very sweet. On the duck side of things, Calls would be too noisy but there are some rather interesting rare breeds to consider - I keep Abacot Rangers and they have a whole different character from the Indian Runners I kept for example.

Failing this - Pigeons? There are some nice Fan tail pigeons that I find interesting. They seem to be in demand too and breed fairly easily.

Hmm i was kind of thinking something Like guinea fowl or other weird and wonderful birds

i have 4 roosters and sevral loud ducks in built up area and the only complaint i got was about the guinea fowl sadly mr fox got her fue weeks ago. the neighbours liked her but noise was horrid.
how about diffrent breed of pheasent or or a rare breed chook

Hi Golden pheasant. If you are worried about noise you certainly don't want guinea fowl. They are terribly noisy! I think the doves were a very good suggestion. You can get lots of different kinds now, and they are lovely things to have flying round. Someone has a dovecot down the road from me, and I see the flight of white doves wizzing round overhead sometimes. Of course the more exotic 'species' ones you'd keep in an aviary.

i'm very tempted by the idea of Seramas. They're so beautiful and SO TINY, my friend has a trio and it's just like looking through the wrong end of a telescope. Might be quite profitable since so many people with little space are coming into chicken keeping as pets and for 'decoration.'

Hi, have you thought about an indoor bird? I was offered a rainbow parakeet yesterday, unfortunately too far for me to travel to re-home. X
