You can get what they call a poultry saddle that the chicken wears to protect it from getting hurt. Also see if you can trim the cockerels` talons or file them down.I have done both, but silkies seem to be prone to damage due to their soft feathers not giving much protection. There is also a spray that can be used which is more to do with pecking, but may deter the cockerel.I prefer to separate my birds for a few weeks at a time so the hen can heal up.Also a hen can be fertile for up to three weeks after mating which can help in the breeding season to keep her healthy. This is o k if you have space to separate them.I have a massive gold splash cockerel and the hen was getting hurt. I put her in with some younger hens which were not big enough to peck at her wounds.I kept a close eye on her because birds tend to go for any wounds and it can get very nasty if not nipped in the bud early.I am only a beginner and others may have different advice,I can only say what I have actually done myself.I have about 3/400 birds in 60/70 different pens and this problem is pretty regular for me.I have a few large dog cages and they come in useful for isolating birds in an emergency.Hope your hen gets better,Kevin.
