Hello,

Just got home from work and discovered one of my black rocks in the house looking very sorry for herself :( . I've had a read through of some of the other posts but I'm not sure I seem to have symptoms of different illnesses. I found what looked to be a 'lash' on the floor of the house under her. She's not been eating but has had quite a bit of water. I've been worming them recently and wondered if that might be something to do with it? She's huddled up by the water now and she looks likes she's nodding off. She's had a bit of a runny nose, but not much else so maybe that's contributing to it also. Her poo was runny yellow and white.

A few weeks ago we introduced 2 cream legbars (15 weeks old) and I'm worried they've brought something with them that's made her ill. I'm worried it might be cocci too! Those of you who know me on this forum will know I worry about everything, but I've never seen her like this.

Any ideas would be greatly appecriated, booking her into the vets asap.

Charlie---she certainly sounds generally unwell but with no specific symptoms its so difficult to say. I am sure you are doing to right thing taking her off to the vet, mean while she needs keeping quiet, warm and hydrated. Let us know how she gets on. Ros. :(

ditto above, wouldn't think the worming had any thing to do with her being off colour, certainly the two new girls may be a possibilty looking at infection cycles, have your birds been vaccinated? With hybrids a lot are vaccinated by the supplier. Odd objects laid by hens do tend to make them feel sorry for themselves, specially if the expulsion was caused by a minor internal infection. You are doing the best thing by getting a vet to have a look ;)

Hello,

Thank you again for the replies. I took her to the vet and indeed he thought it was a repository problem so I've been injecting her with baytril for the last couple of days. The great news she was back to her bossy and inquisitive self the very next day after the trip to the vets. :-)07 Not so good were the early mornings and trying to inject her with the aid of a torch!

I know its an age old question but how long do most people leave their eggs before eating them again after baytril? I've heard for a week, 28 days, even NEVER AGAIN :-)11 !! Though I don't think I'll be doing the last one! :)
