Pets, pets, pets (of the non feathered kind)

We used to get Metacam from the vets, but it was very expensive. We then bought online using a vets prescription, but the vets have now thought up a new "scam". They charges for the prescription so buying online is no longer cheaper and for every other prescription they insist on a consultation.

I know they have overheads etc, but I wish there was a true alternative to the problem of over priced drugs.

Hi Earthly,
Where online were you buying the metacam?I think it was october last year that the vets started charging more for the scripts. At the time my mum was giving metacam to her spaniel, despite the higher charge it was still cheaper.Soewhere I do have the phone number for the drug suppliers she got it from.

I do agree with you though,if the vets insist on charging more for drugs, they shouldn't crank up the charge for a script.

When I had more dogs(had 19 including pups at one time)it was far cheaper for me to buy drontal plus online than direct from my vet.I only stopped because I've got less dogs now so prefer to pop into vets or farmers store and collect the few I need.

Hi Earthly,

2 things that might be useful. In our area a short distance makes a huge difference to vets fees. My vet is wonderful, wouldn't go anywhere else but......... he's not cheap!! My friend lives about 10 miles away & changed from her vet of 20+ years to a new vet that charged about half!! The difference was huge (sorry if you've already thought of this  )

Now, just remembered that I still have a new prescription of Metacam. Its still in date, I offered it to the vet (as he treats the dog resue centre free) but he's not allowed to take it back. So its yours if you would like it. I will have a look for it & find out the dose etc.

You all have some gorgeous animals! I'll admit to some bias towards Eric the whippet  - i have a pile of greyhounds here and love all pointy dogs :D I know how you feel with the prescription charges - Bryn's 10 and on rimadyl for his achy old joints :(

My lot (hopefully I've done it right!) - Badger, Skye & Bryn:

this is one of my other dogs,Gypsy whippy.I'm very lucky to have my dogs,Gypsy is 9yrs old,but unfortunately not very sound due to an accident about 2 yrs ago.
She is in the dogs chair,(the mud gives that away) but if a hen wants to sit in that chair, she moves for it :D .

Love the pet pics those look to be well cared for.

Here is the wife's dog B.J. he is a black Airedale and very spoiled. She has two others but I do not have any pics of them.

Wow what an old pic. He was only 6 weeks old here and now he is waist high to me.

And here is the evil Sugarpuss. BJ's arch enemy yet partner in crime. I actually captured her in a live trap this spring. None of the other ferel cats would have a thing to do with her and at night she would get just as close to the chickens as she could to sleep. Since tamed down and a house cat I have a time keeping her out of the brooder when I have chicks. Just loves to sleep with them.

LYDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-----Do I spot chickens IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Ha ha!! Ros

:D Erm.....where else would my chooks be lol  .They come in every day, and,on wet days spend a lot of time in here........

your horses and dogs are gorgeous,is the black dog a black G.S. or a Greonadeal Belgian Shepherd?

hi lydia the black dog is a gsd, the two young gsds only have one ear up {i dont think they will both come up they are getting a bit to old}. I have lots more animal besides the ones shown, will try and get them up now im into posting piccies

I thought she was,Belgian's seem to have lighter bone, not quite as heavy, they are all lovely.

I have miniature shetlands - that foal is gorgeous! I keep thinking I should breed from my mare but I am going to breed from my miniature donkey jenny next year so I haven't room for too many otherwise they won't have the quality of life I want for them.
