The first osprey back to Rutland Water is 'Maya', earliest ever recorded date. :-)08 She is now live on their webcam for anyone interested.

Let's hope the Dyfi and Glaslyn birds will also return safely.

From the OH who is this households official Osprey information bureau. Rutland's satellite tagged Osprey left Senegal at 1pm on 10 March, you can check her progress on their website. Plus 2 unringed birds turned up in Hampshire and Derbyshire today.
Big excitement to as a Spoonbill flew over the garden

Does the underground network have any idea where these unringed ospreys came from? Its hopeful that there must be some unobserved and unprotected nests managing to be successful. it's a good thing they don't eat grouse!

Isn't it just.
There is a nest in Snowdonia with unringed birds and more in Scotland and the Lake District. Plus you have many birds that are travelling to Scandinavia via the UK. Birds that have been born in UK and unringed will also be coming back and looking for new sites, hopefully the new nest site set up in Dorset will attract new birds that have no breeding site, plus I know that they are hopeful that Hampshire will attract a pair in the not too distant future.

Maya's partner 33 returned to Rutland at 17.20 yesterday evening. They will be in for a chilly weekend

Couldn't see the Rutland nest for snow earlier but it's looking brighter and both ospreys are on the nest at the moment (11.56 am)

We can imagine the discussion on the nest yesterday morning. "lets leave early for Rutland you said, beat the rush, and make a few headlines on the way, last time I listen to you"

"'bout time he came back with a fish. Bet he's down the pub telling them about the one that got away ..."

Much clearer picture this year - although there's nothing much to see.

Poor ospreys at Rutland Water even had snow in their nest!

In case you have missed it, Dyfi is testing the live streaming and audio at the moment. Chat is broken but they're looking into it.

There's not much to see there either yet!

Blue 24 arrived at Dyfi this morning at 11.38am. EJ the Loch Garten female returned yesterday evening and the Loch of the Lowes female arrived Tuesday morning. Other Ospreys are at Rutland including Blue 28 and 11. Hopefully Mrs G and Aran, Monty and Glesni are not too far behind especially with some southerly winds tomorrow.

Doesn't Blue 24 look splendid! They had the live streaming test at just the right moment.

Here's the live streaming link to the Dyfi project

The Home page of the Rutland project also has an interesting blog giving video highlights from the previous day's footage

Two ospreys were heading west over Gloucestershire this afternoon. Eyes peeled in case they are Dyfi or Glaslyn birds. Osprey 30 was in Morocco on Friday roosted at Al Massira dam, hopefully she is crossing Spain now.
