I bought a new pekin cockerel and his wife. The lady I had them from thought they were salmon but they look more like silver birchen to me from what I've seen on the net! (Any ideas??!)

Don't really mind what they are- they're very pretty, him especially. He's a gorgeous chocolate brown colour with beetle green feathers and cream too- He'd look even better if he'd stop scrapping through the fence!

Lovely pekins :D
would say not silver birchen as would be black with silver lacing on neck (think Ive got that right??) boy does look salmon to me (if pekin colouring is similar to faverolles).

Yes , silver birchen would be as you decribed :D I meant silver wheaten
As long as he gives a mixture of colours with my hens I don't mind what he is! - The cockerels I had that were taken by the fox gave a lot of plain black chicks so I wanted to lighten up what I might get a bit. I'm going to try to hatch a millefleur boy to put in there too so I should get some pure millies next year- all part of the master plan!

Hi,

So lovely, and the cockeral is very handsome!, Is the mottled pekin a millefleur pekin then? or do you call them speckled? Anyhow I adore this mottled look, and would love some little uns next year.
Enjoy, Sharron

She's a millefleur- brown/ mahogany base with black and white tipped feathers- she's gone very white over the past moults! Mottled is usually black (but can be blue or lavender and probably other colours too!) with white tips to the feathers. - Both colours are very pretty!
I have a younger pullet who is a better example of a millefleur- will try to get some pics of her later :D
