my run stands at about 7 ft tall with another 2 ft of sharp wire around the top to stop anything getting on the roof and for i think 6 yrs now has proved totally fox proof but i am now wanting to make smaller runs which wont be as high as i am now going to really really think about putting on solid roofs which is why i am thinking of making each run smaller in size as i may well be doing this on my own so the lower the roof the easier it will be for me but would i be asking for trouble if i did this and dropped the roof down to just over 5ft or 6 ft ?? my local bird centre has runs that are about 6 ft tall with solid corrugated roofs that must be 8ft by 8ft as most of it is wooden sides with wire mesh fronts they look good but at £350 each i wont be buying any but am tempted to try and make my own and convert what i have .

1 pen will only have 3 faverolles in it the 2nd just bantams and the third will house about 10 adult birds but as they die of from illness or old age i doubt i will be replacing them but i have plenty of room to make 4 pens or maybe more smaller ones in time .

If the top of the pens are fully covered, either by wire or something more solid, the height could depend on what suits you in regard to building them and what suits you to walk about in.

the roofs will be netted with the same strong netting i am using at the mo then corrugated over that but i would need to lower the height of the run so i would be able to lift the new roofing in place .it will be at least a month before i start this and i will work one pen at a time so i would probably do the bantams one first ,i have the space as i am allowed to convert my whole plot to a run so thats not a probelm.

My run is 2.4m (8') square. The roof is made of a 2x1" frame, with 2" chicken wire stapled on first, then clear corrugated PVC sheets screwed on top.
They are quite light and can be lifted onto to 2m high run and screwed down onto the side panels. Has worked well for the past 5 years. :D

any chance of pics please :D , i have a neighbour who works in building construction so i am going to see if he can get me ply sheets for the lower half hes got me other stuff in the past the more i can get for free the better
