I thought only cockerels had spurs but one of my hens has them. She lays wonderful big eggs, so isn't that manly Her sister doesn't though :?
What do you guys reckon?
Spurs are not that uncommon on hens. They are most common on older hens but do grow quite early on some pullets. I don't find they occur more in any particular breed and at the moment, have spurs on Sussex, Andalusian and Black Hamburgh. They do lay after they've grown spurs but whether they lay as much after they've grown them is hard to say.
