Hi, I'd be grateful for some guidance.

I have a light sussex, 2 years old. In the last 10 days she has gone progressively lame in her left leg. Her leg seems to collapse beneath her and when she moves it is as though she is arthritic, and certainly uncomfortable. She is no longer laying (having been a solid performer previously) but she's still clucking, is alert and responsive, and her comb is bright and erect. There is no sign of cloudyness in the eyes or discharge from the nostrils. She shares the coop with a single sebright and a pair of wyandottes - we've not seen any fighting between them. We've examined her leg and cannot detect any swelling or breaks. We think the wyandottes brought in scaly-leg with them when they arrived 3 months ago but we've treated it aggressively and it is clearing up, and there is no sign of red mite. We are at a loss. Any thoughts? Thank you.

You have throughly checked her out there so sounds simply like 'arthritis' Gabgabgap, although it could be a hip injury from jumping off too high a perch and twisting. We have had both. The hip took 6 weeks to mend. The arthritis is more of a problem as there is no cure. But we have given a little Cod Liver Oil by syringe which seems to help stiff joints -works for me as well! Expect the taste to get into the eggs as they sweat a fishy smell for a while -but none of ours treated were laying so I can't confirm that. We give 0.5mL per Kg bodyweight as a one off, but she may be better just having 0.5mL once a week.
