i am stuck with 2 of my girls , one has a yukky pooy bum the poo is greeny white gunk which is now stucking to her feathers but although shes very quiet and not really eating when you get close to her she freaks and bolts then its like 30 mins trying to catch her and the other one has lost all her weight had sour crop and looks as rough as hell but only thing is shes moulting badly to as you can see the new featehrs trying to come though but shes also an old ex batt they are due worming this weekend onwards but i dont think its worms ?? i have a feeling its something deep inside the birds one is 3 now and this ex batt must be pushing 4 yrs now so shes had a good life .neither are eating thier mixed corn and from past experience i know that once they go of that then thats it i have arranged for my friend to come over and do the deed for me but i am now wandering if to give them a few more days with the wormer and see if they pick up ??

The greeny white gunk must be an abdominal infection Karminski. A lot of our hybrid layers went that way. Struggling with the moult needs more protein like sunflower hearts, mealworms, mashed egg. Repeated sour crop can be due to fungal cankers in the throat so have a look for white or cream coloured growths. Like you I doubt worms is the underlying problem although worming may help. Abdominal infection needs antibiotics (we use Baytril which then wrecks the gut flora) and cankers need Flagyl or less commonly Nystan. Problem with cankers they can take a good month or more to treat and may be all through the body so won't respond to the treatment. Like you I don't think it sounds too good for them Karminski.

i lost the white leghorn yesterday before she could be culled and the other one which is an old ex batt is moulting like crazy and thats knocking her for 6 but the others will no longer let her into the group so shes now living with the bantams full time , i have been checking for signs of canker and theres none dont worry the slightest change to thier mouths etc wether its colour or anything gets me checking  today we have been working in the run like crazy and we made the 8'4 house into a small 4'4 house which meant pretty much stripping the whole thing down and i found about 20 red mites { all dead :D } so at least i dont have a mass invasion of them . i havent stopped all day with the animals and tomorrow will be worse as i am having a pony put to sleep in the morning so i will be pretty upset but as well as re sorting out stables i still need to make 2 more shelters with the rest of the 4'4 ply but i am shattered so i might a few days of from the run and do them over the weekend .
