Hi,

My lovely little blue pekin, Sky, has not settled down in her new home with me.
It wasn't that she was being bullied or anything like that, and she was eating/drinking and laying almost every day (better than the others), but she crowed her head off all day long.
She was a really lovely, friendly little thing, but in the interests of her happiness I have sent her back to her cockerel. She hasn't uttered a sound since. So hopefully, she will be happier now.

In return I brought back a pekin cross that my friend didn't want - she is into pure breeds only. She got my new girl with 4 others (which she can sell on) when she went to collect another coop.

So, I'm giving the little cross a home. She has a tiny touch of scaly leg, so I will treat her for that, adn she is being kept separate at the moment.

However, can we work out what she is?
She's got the markings of a Sussex cross to me, or perhaps a Dutch something ot other?

It makes no difference to me what she is, I fell in love the minute I set eyes on her. I've named her Milly.

Oh, I didn't realise you could get buff columbian.
Columbian was my first thought, but then I've only seen white.
And what do you make of that tail?

Cannot help there, if she was a brahma buff columbian shes just right ;) but other breeds not to sure on :?

Thanks for help so far, Kellogg - at least i've got a colour.
As for pekins, they should be round like pompoms without a pointy bit in sight - the search contuines.
I'm quite excited, and I've learned something new today.
Thanks.

But what about the tail?
All the pekin hen I've seen have pompom tails - why has she got a pointy, sticky-up tail if she's a pekin?
Also, she only seems to have feathers on her feet, not legs.

Oh Liz,

Well she doesn't look like she has a "cushion" at all- or a chrysantheum tail as I call them! It does resemble ever so slightly a fantail - like our D'uccle and Sablepoot.

BUT she is gorgeous- I hope she settles in well, and is a little less vocal. Our Millie, the sablepoot has found her voice this last couple of days...... and yes she crows!

Best of luck, Sharron

Thanks, Sharron, so far, so good.

I did have her in a separate hutch (I have 3) within the enclosure and during the day I let the others into the garden and let Milly have the enclosure (140 square foot).

However, whilst trying to pick her up, she escaped into the garden and went over to the others. They nudged her out of the way a bit, but no fighting this time.

Anyway, all three coops were open so they can go where they please - they don't always settle in the same one each night and not always together.
The other 5 went into the new coop and Milly settled in the old one (she was previously in the Sick Bay hutch).
When I went out to close all the doors they were all cuddled up togther in the same coop.

I know, I know, you're supposed to keep them separate, but they did this themselves.
I'll treat them all for scaly leg in the morning, just in case.

Isn't this fun?

From the front a buff columbian pekin, from the side a buff sussex shaped tail. Is a cross but still a very pretty girl

Hi, Sue,
Yes, I thought Sussex when I first saw her. I'm just curious.
I let them out this morning and they were still all cuddled up together and no-one was sporting any wounds. I just love her.
