Is there no limit to human stupidity?

That was a really enjoyable read, nearly as funny as some of OH's conversations with Parcel Force and their inability to deliver a parcel. They didn't quite get to an asteroid hitting the depot, or being overrun by giant spiders, but we could have got there in the end

How do you mitigate a security risk to acceptable levels when the USA is involved?
 
Me to. Having seen clips of people trying to cram whole pies etc into their mouths, and using both hands as shovels to get food down the hatch. Ghastly.
 
Reminds me of the Fatty Arbuckle challenge when I was in Suffolk. Can't remember the starter but I think it was a 16 oz steak etc followed by 5 litres of ice cream - and there were people who managed it but there were always those who didn't :-)03 :-)03 :-)03
 
We used to travel West/East through Texas years ago (man, Texas is big! We'd drive for a day and a half, and still be in Texas!), and in one city, there was a place that advertised a 72oz steak, with fries and salad. If you could finish it, you got it for free. Which is actually great marketing, because so many would try and fail, and have to pay for it all, so it was well worth the very odd person who did manage to finish it!

I know. And I saw a RNLI crew around the Hastings area had to go out during the storm to rescue a surfer! The video showed the lifeboat being hit by a huge wave, and almost capsizing. Went right over on it's side, before righting itself. I reckon the guy should at the least be billed with the costs of the rescue.
 
I saw that clip too LadyA - thank heaven for modern self-righting lifeboats! I wonder if he even thought to give them a donation but that's the stuff that never gets reported.

I guess it’s that “it won’t happen to me” scenario that exist in the minds of young men. I remember one incident when I was potholing and another when I was hang gliding that could easily have been fatal. To use a saying, God was on my side on those occasions. Balanced against these incidents is the need for youngsters to push back the frontiers. Personally I find those who do not live on the edge when they’re young to be a bit lacking in the testicles department. ???
 
Not just young men. I've nothing against people being adventurous - I used to motor race and hill-climb cars and I dislike the nanny state that won't let people take risks. Putting other peoples lives at risk from downright stupidity is a different matter.

I bet your pot-holing incident didn't occur because you were wearing trainers and had no helmet light or torch - climbing Ben Nevis at any tome in trainers is just STUPID and in the snow and ice?????????????

OK, rant over, I'll get off my soapbox even if it does mean I go back to being just 5 feet tall.
 
I have nothing against people being adventurous, but please wear the appropriate clothing and equipment.
Mobile phones and "selfies" have added to the current craze for standing on the edge of something and totally oblivious to gusts of wind or crashing waves.
I remember a friend who was stationed at Culdrose and one summer day they rescued the same child in a rugby dinghy 3 times, the third time they punctured the dinghy and got an angry letter from the child's father wanting the money for the dinghy, they replied with a letter saying he could have the money if he paid the cost of the rescues, which was about £120, 000, they factored in aviation fuel man hours, maintenance costs etc
They never heard anymore
