I have a pekin who is limping & on inspection the underside of her foot is slightly raised. How do I know if this is bumblefoot? I have read various posts on the internet, but there's no sign of a scab or injury, & she doesn't even flinch if I press it.
Is there anything else it could be or should I treat with antibiotic anyway? I have some tylan left over from previously, but can't find the leaflet with the dosage.
Be grateful for any advice

Hi,if she is limping it could be the start of bumblefoot, hens that are not very energetic are more prone to this, but it is usually large breed hens like orpingtons.
One of my hens did have bumblefoot, the vet treated her with baytril (tylan is very good for respiratory infections, not sure about tylan being effective against bumblefoot)and an anti-inflamatory.
The dosage for tylan soluble(as far as I'm aware) is half a gram per litre of water for poultry.

Hi Lydia,
Thanks for that. I've got her isolated, so will keep a close eye on her for a while.

Hi,

One of my pekins had bumblefoot in the summer. We sprayed her with an antibiotic from the vets- Terramycin. To keep the foot clean I bandaged it up with "vets" wrap, which was much easier than it sounds. It helped her with her limping & gave her some padding. We couldnt see a puncture wound either, and after a few weeks the foot seemed far less swollen. We only kept up the antibiotic for about 10days.
maybe the following link may be of some help, all the best with her......
