How Big is Your No Deal Brexit Food Stash?

There's one thing that I've stocked up on & that's decent decaffeinated coffee from "The Decadent Decaf Coffee" company. I've had to cut down to one caffeinated coffee a day this year & it's been a relief to find some decaf that doesn't just taste of damp soil & cardboard. Mind you, my favourite is grown in Costa Rica & roasted in Sussex, so Brexit shouldn't make much of a difference :-)

I only have one cup of coffee a day too, and not even every day. The rest of the time I drink herbal tea, with an occasional cup of what friends call "realitea", i.e. regular black tea. I'm by no means a connoisseur of coffee, but I buy from a local coffee roasters, and I get sacks of coffee chaff from them free, to use as bedding in the chicken house! It's brilliant. Keeps bugs down, because they don't like the smell of coffee apparently, it's very soft and warm, and composts quickly. The only downside is that it's extremely lightweight, and blows around a lot!

I'll be giving these a go in the new year so thanks for the recommendation. If anyone fancies trying some lovely full caff coffees or some excellent teas then try HR Higgins. I have 2kg of their coffee in the freezer and Mrs D has god knows how many packets of their tea in the cupboards.

Friday was "fridge soup" day, all the left over veggies being made into soup.

We live in Kent & only have one pack of loo rolls. If the worst comes to the worst, there's always newspaper... I said that to a lass on a checkout during lockdown 1. She was horrified! Kids of today...

You've reminded me of when we went to visit some country cousins when I was 7 or 8. With us living in a new council house I was horrified to find that their only loo was down the yard - the plank with two holes and a pit beneath. Even more horrific was the loo paper - newspaper that someone had taken trouble to cut into neat squares, threaded on a string and hung on the back of the door.

There is always Country Life or Vogue, probably a bit scratchy but would look good hung up next to the loo.
Back in spring when there were queues, I said "well if we run out of tea, coffee or milk, there is plenty of water in the tap". People looked at me as though I had suddenly grown two heads

The problem with Country Life & Vogue is that they're no more absorbant than Izal, so they'll be pretty useless on a nail by the loo... Private Eye would be much better, & if you had a low fibre diet, you could read it while you waited :-)

Izal! That's what we had. Completely smooth and totally non-absorbent. It has always puzzled me why anyone thought it was a good idea. Then came Bronco - remember that? A crepe-y texture in a beigey brown colour that looked awful. It was, happily, much more absorbent than Izal and who cared what colour it was? It was quite a while after that we got the really soft absorbent stuff.

I remember Izal. A great-aunt used to have it in her outside loo. And the school loos also had it. Horrible stuff.

I think the idea with Izal was that it was so useless a roll would last for months. A similar idea with the toilet paper rolls in the council offices - the roll is so big that the inertia of turning it is a greater force than the breaking strength of the paper. So you would get one square and then spend the next five minuets trying to find the end of the roll again to get another square.

Have you seen the new commercial loo roll dispensers called 'smart 1'? They're a bit like a wall mounted steel tissue holder, so that you only get 1 piece at a time, therefore no waste or seeing blocked public loos. ?

No earthly use then, if you need to sit on a public loo seat. By the time you've got a couple of sheets out to wipe the seat & have needed twice as many sheets to put on the seat to sit on, as they need to overlap, you'll need to stop for a wee half an hour in advance of needing to go!!!

Bizarre! The secrets of female urination.
I have a male acquaintance here who always kneels before the toilet in my house when he urinates so we can’t hear the tinkling sound. I think it’s time some psychologist wrote a book on the whole subject of toilet neurosis.

You need one of these Hen Gen. Amongst other things it plays covering music to preserve your dignity! The 'spray' button is funny. Carol never dared press it - it makes for a wide eyed experience if you do!
