I know it's script writers, but I couldn't stand the way Steptoe always succeeded in appealing to Harold's better nature and ruining his life. I was too immature to realise it resonated with me because that's what was happening to me - and I let it continue for 40 more years. :evil:

I've never seen Steptoe & Son. I know it's classed as "classic" now, but somehow I've never come across it. Or that other one... the one with David Jason. Can't remember the name of it, but it's also regarded as a classic.

That would be Only Fools and Horses. Now that was a classic and relatively PC.
But I would urge everyone to watch Would I Lie to You. David Mitchel, husband of Victoria Coren, of Upstart Crow fame is possibly the funniest man ever.

A work colleagues mum was housekeeper at a local hotel, which Tommy Cooper used to stay at, and he may have been funny but he delighted in setting traps for unwary housemaids, i.e mouse traps hidden in bedding, things that went bang when you opened a cupboard or drawer. Which resulted in a broken finger from a particularly strong trap and a minor burn from an explosive. One memorable evening he walked over to the gravy cauldron in the dining area and calmly dropped a well used trainer into it, " for added flavour".
She said Michael Caine was lovely.
For a classic, Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours, no doubt that is un pc now, with his stutter.
