i recently made a bigger enclosure for my two hens and put there house inside, they now no longer go in there house but roost on the top of it.should i try and get them back in house or is it maybe cause it is quite warm and they will go back in on there own accord. :-)07

Hi Rossco. The instinct in poultry is always to roost in the highest place available. (short of thirty foot up in a giant ash.) Is your run covered? If not I wouldn't think they'd be safe outside. Foxes can clear any height of wire fencing up to nine foot or so, and even then... It is difficult. You might be out there catching them every night! You could try tacking floppy wire around the top of the house to make it difficult for them to fly onto the roof, but the best way is always to roof over the top of the pen with more chicken wire. I put props up every so often to hold it up in the centre. That's quite easy. The painstaking part is lashing the lengths of netting together to make a continuous canopy. For this though your groundwork also has to be good. At least eight inches embedded.

the run is covered all round with chicken wire and it has a corrugated roof, house is just new so hopefully there no red mite ,a will check.

Red mite do love new wood mind! This warm humid weather is perfect for them :-)06

checked every nook and cranny couldnt see any red mite, covered roof in wire mesh so hopefully it works, would it do any harm to treat for red mite anyway??

Concerning RedMite .....Prevention is better than cure. (jmho) :-)17 The mesh needs to be loose fitting ... is there gap between mesh and roof af at least an inch ? You may need blocks under it.... :-)17

mesh is loosely fitted,it in a curve over pitch of roof, waiting for them to go to bed now to see where they go

okay it didnt work.enclosure is 6 ft high,do you think an option would be to raise the house up as high as possible.
