I'm back to work today. It's just twice a week. However, I'm not sure how it will go. I went down with the hideous cough/cold virus that's going around here over Christmas. Lordy, I have never felt so truly awful in my life! This cough is the worst, sounds like it's coming from my boots, and like I'm trying to cough my lungs up. Now have all sorts of herbal stuff to take, and am feeling much better. Still coughing though. I'm sure my asthma is not helping any! However, onward and upward! (as long as that "upward" doesn't mean ascending with angelic wings, because this cough has killed me off!)
 
Hope you feel better soon LadyA. Fingers crossed I've managed to escape any sort of cough for about 7 years and a cold for 15 years or so. I think not being around young children helps. I also use disinfectant wipes on my keyboard, mouse and anything else at work, bit of OCD methinks ? Now I've said that, I bet I get an awful virus.....
On a brighter note, the girls are all laying well. Getting 3 eggs daily. I think Barbie and Sindy alternate their days. Sindy's are whoppers. 86g. Roll on lighter mornings and nights.
 
And the new year has well and truly arrived. The weather forecast for tomorrow is 57mph winds and 2.5 ins of snow. Folk have been out doing what they can to prepare. I’m well stocked with animal feed and gas and freezers full of food so what will be will be. So honouring Ullr, the Viking snow god.

Similar here with wind but no snow. Not really cold either. Need to go to Stornoway soon for more layers pellets, they've gone through nearly 20 kg in just a few weeks - they're growing girls. Thinking of getting solar panels/windmill and get rid of the oil tank.

I've not bought oil this year. I have a multifuel boiler stove that heats the house very efficiently, and also have these, for when I don't light the stove: http://www.sunjoyireland.ie/ They are "radiant" heating panels, mounted on the ceilings in each room. They are individually operated, so you can just heat the room you are in if you want. They are a very comfortable heat, and I really like them.
 
Those look very nice, Lady A, very interesting. We stayed in an electrically heated flat in Edinburgh last November and it was very comfortable. I'd love to ditch the oil tank - the oil is expensive and seems to be used in a flash. I need a costed plan but I like those heaters, thank you.
 
WOW these are just what I need for my freezing cold conservatory!! I only venture in there in summer. Are they expensive?

They aren't cheap, but I'd say compare favourably with having any heating system installed. Not sure they'd be suitable for a conservatory though. They do work best in a well insulated house.
They are operated by a wireless control unit in each room. You set the temperature for each time slot (there are six, fully variable slots that you can set per day), and if the temp in the room drops below that, the heater will switch on. If the temp remains at or above the set temperature, the heater doesn't turn on. So, all day, I'd have the ones in the bedrooms set at about 10C, so the heaters don't come on during the day. Then, a couple of hours before bedtime, and again a couple of hours before I get up, the program is set to switch on if the temp falls below 18.5C, so the heater comes on for those few hours. And, you can override the program and switch a heater on or off any time.
 
My house is warm, it's just the conservatory, it's too cold to sit in there from October to June. Its got the best view of the garden, too, where I can watch the birds scoffing from the feeders. We had new window panes put in last year, but it was a waste of money. Needs a new roof really. Sigh. Too expensive.... PS Hope you're feeling much better.

I'm getting there, thank you. Ended up at a private, walk in doctor clinic yesterday. I really felt like I could die. Coughing so badly I couldn't catch breath, and ended up throwing up, and just wanted to curl up and cry. Couldn't eat. So, the upshot is I've a very severe respiratory infection, with congestion preventing me getting benefit from my asthma inhalers, which was making the congestion worse, etc. And a bad infection in both ears! So now on steroids and antibiotics. The steroids have given me a good boost already, and I'm eating again. Not coughing as badly, and my ears have almost cleared, and not sounding like everything is muffled. So, all good!
 
You wouldnt believe this after what I wrote a couple ofdays ago. I started with a sore throat and mild cough today. I wonder if it has been passed on via the forum :x :lol: :roll:
