FOR SALE

Chicken wire - As new, only used a small amount of a long roll. It's the 105 cm high stuff. £20

And half a dozen or so fencing poles. 5 or 6 ft iirc. Good condition. No idea of how much we paid for these but if they go with the wire I'll only ask £10 for them.

Please PM me or post here if interested. I'd like to get rid of them ASAP as they are taking up room. Buyer collects (or can possibly arrange to meet somewhere or something).

Hi Snifter

How much P&P to BB7 postcode for the heatlamp? Do you have a paypal account?

Many thanks
Amy

I think it was about £3-4 P&P and yes I do.

I'll weigh it again later and double check the cost as it was a few weeks ago I weighed it all. This was registered post so needing a signature at the other end. If normal first class am guessing it will be a bit cheaper.

Great! So will this heat lamp be suitable to put in my hen house during the winter months as it gets very cold where I live? If so, I would like to buy it!

Many thanks
Amy

I guess you could if you wanted, although its more intended for using over chicks.

If you have a good hen house your adult birds should be fine even on the cold nights. They will huddle up on their perches and keep each other warm.

Also with lighting they may well start pecking at each other if they can see what they are doing. I'd give them proper darkness at night.

Of course, I'm happy to sell it to you if you really want it, but I don't think you really need it overnight for grown chooks.

None of my business and I don't want to influence you - but if you really wanted to heat the coop, I would use this but change the bulb to a 60W, 100w or 150W ceramic Dull Emmitter.

You want the heat lamp to be safe - this fitting is about the safest with a strong chain and guard and you don't want it to be lit up at night or your birds will not be able to sleep. The ceramic dull emmitter bulbs come in different sizes and do not give off light. I use the 60W version in this fitting for my chicks when they first go into the field to give them a little heat at night.

I know many people in Canada who do not heat there birds even when it is really cold. As long as they are draught free. However it does depend on the breed - some fancy bantams, seramas and the like I know are usually kept in the coop / dry and often heated over winter.

Last week I went out to the field to find some straw smoking in the ducklings house. I was using a normal 60W bulb which had fallen from the hook onto the floor. It burnt the wood on the house - turned it black like charcoal and was smouldering away in the straw.... After this I have sworn I will only use a propper fitting like this for my birds...

O I'd forgotten about those dull emmitter bulbs Tim.

Good thinking Batman :D

Yes, lesson is learned!

I was looking again this afternoon when I was cleaning out and it's made the wood black an inch deep, like charcoal. It was a standard 60 Watt bulb - it's amazing how hot they get.
