Previously we have bought 60g tubs of Flubenvet. The scoop provided measured 6g and was mixed with 2Kg of feed as per the instructions.

We now have a 240g tub of Flubenvet. Reading the dosing instructions it says 120g medicates 100Kg of feed. That equates to a 6g scoop mixing with 5Kg of feed. Something is wrong somewhere. The 240g tub contains Flubenvet at 2.5%.

Have just found the old 60g tub luckily. The tub contains Flubenvet at 1%. So the larger tub contains Flubenvet at 2.5 times the strength.

Fortunate I didn't just mix it from memory and a warning to anyone buying the large tubs because of the current supply shortage. Worth noting that the large tub costs twice the price of the smaller one but contains 10 times as much Flubenvet drug. So works out 80% cheaper. Probably mixes easier with feed but is also more dangerous to use. I was ill the first time we used it because I inhaled some of the dust.

Thanks for that Chris, I probably would have assumed it was the strength of the smaller tub and overdosed them. It is obviously far more cost effective to buy the larger tub so will buy that if I can get it when I am buying next time.

Cost effectiveness depends on how many birds you will need to treat. OK to buy the big pot if you have lots of birds or can share it with another poultry keeper, but if you have only a few it will go out of date long before you will use it up.

Only problem I can see Newtoducks is mixing a 6g scoop into 5Kg of feed. Our 10 Litre buckets only hold 2Kg of feed. There is no 6g scoop with the large tubs either. Also depends on how many birds you have. Our large tub has a 2014 use-by date so it will treat 200 birds once, or 40 birds before it expires.

We have always used the big tubs 2.5% and measure one flat tsp. into 5kgs of feed, this was in the days before the 1% was available. We do this twice a year and annually in the autumn check for worm loads, these have always been perfectly acceptable levels. We don't necessary add oil into the mixing as the instructions do not require this. Worming is done in the spring when temps hit 15 degrees or when they are moved to fresh pastures. They are wormed again about September time and then wormloads are checked.

The problem i've had with the 1% Foxy is the volume of powder to coat 2Kg is too much and a lot seems to fall off -hence the mix with a little olive oil first. The same volume of powder into 5Kg of feed I can imagine would be OK and no oil would be needed. But we're going down the syringe route, administering to each bird individually, because I am sure some stop eating when the Flubenvet dust goes on. No problem with Marriages premix but we can't get that here.
You can get Frontline spray off the shelf here. Haven't see the spot-on.
