Woohoo! Mehefin laid an almighty egg over the weekend, it was huge and yep! It was a double Yolker...had it for breakfast this morning...hubby will be jealous! :D :-)08

Oh no!! Chris, I knew you would ask that! I don't have any scales accurate enough to weigh an egg...I did get a photo though, will try and post it tonight!

We've just had the opposite Cuwiar -a no yolker! From Charity, a 4+kg Buff Orpington (one of Bottom's daughters) who strained away in the nest box for an hour to produce ............ a 24 gramme egg. The smallest we've ever had from anyone ! For the statistics, 24g, 39.6mm long, 32.8 -32.9mm diameter.

You measured the diameter Chris? :D

I was a Quality Manager in a previous life and old habbits die hard. The two figures for diameter are there because it wasn't perfectly round -close though. For the purists amongst us, no my dial caliper hasn't been calibrated within the last 12 months.

And why not Chris? tut..tut.. :D

And our offering from Charity would fall through the holes! We've cracked it open and she had laid the white and shell around a tiny black spot. We haven't had a double yolker for ages.

Mehefin's turned into a champion layer! A few weeks ago we had an egg from her with an enormous yolk! Got some pics of that too so will post them!

She's regular as clockwork and they are always a good size - shame she's the one who (might) be back on trial for paying too much interest in Ebrill's knickers!

I said earlier that we haven't had a double yolker for ages. Well that run was broken by one of the three TNN pullets who laid an 88 gramme double yolker. A long way from Gracie's 126 grammes but still a big egg for a relatively small girl. We are getting three eggs from them every day now. So show quality with Utility performance - worth every penny !

Sue and Foxy. Didn't get the dial caliper out for the dimensions. Been re-felting a coop roof today and just can't be bothered!

Chris, I really am disappointed, I have come to expect all the dimensions from you, nothing short of this is acceptable, no excuses about re-felting next time!!!!

ps. I'm going out at the weekend to buy some scales that will weight grammes!! Could start a competition here!

And Charity has done it again, another 24 gramme egg. So that's two- hope it's not going to become a habbit!

Congratulations Charity! I think Chris should allow you to move into the house now as a reward. :D

She has redeemed herself today Sue with a 98 gramme double yolker. Perhaps she saw the sign on the back door 'Chicken Hotel -sorry no vacancies'.

Oh Chris, surely she deserves to move in after that! Isn't there room for just one more!!!!!!!!!??

Well Bottom was in the downstairs bathroom in his bed. Claude was trying to fly onto the kitchen worktop because he saw pasta. Issy was sitting in the doorway to the hall looking sorry for herself and trying to get tripped over. Dilly was feeding her face with Bottoms dinner then Claudes hormones kicked in and he tried to tread her which sent her squealing under the kitchen table. So Claude was given his medicine and sent to bed early. Then Issy needed hers. I had to lock all the birds away -11 coops. Plus feed and water and so it goes on! Dinner arrived but Bottom wanted a cuddle etc etc.

So there definitely isn't room for one more Sue ...............probably definately isn't............possibly isn't ?
