Okay,I've read the post by Tim about posting pics......er twice. So I'll have a go.......

well done with the pics. Looking good.

Your neighbours don't mind a cockerel crowing? I hope it works out for you keeping one in a residential area :)

I'm hoping it works out as well Snifter,I'd hate to re-home him now.If there is a problem it will be in the spring or summer,at the moment when he starts crowing my neighbours have already left for work......

Well he'll crow in the day also and on weekends. And if he is young you may find as he matures that he will crow in the dark also. I know all of mine did to some degree. Usually from around 4am onwards regardless of the time of year.

I'd never advise buying a cock bird if living in a built up area. There are too many people who can complain as basically anyone within earshot will have a justifiable complaint. To me a dog is far more annoying when left to bark in the daytime but you will be surprised how many people find a cock bird crowing in daytime intrusive. I think because its not a 'normal' sound to them.

He seemed to crow more the first two weeks he was here,I think because he was stating that the garden was his territory. Will have to see how it goes,at the moment his crowing doesn't sound that loud to me,but,it may be more annoying to other people when they have doors and windows open.
I agree with you about dogs,my little terrier I think is more annoying than the cockeral could ever be.

My bantam has started crowing and I'm expecting neighbours grumbling in my general direction. Luckily for me there's a cockeral somewhere on the other side of the village, it's quite a rural area and there's a guy who breeds boxers and they bark all the time.

If anyone hassles me then I'll say - Yes, that's fine. I'll sort my bantam out after you sort out the other cockeral and the dogs first. And stop your dogs s******g in front of my garage!

I still wouldn't do anything about him coz he's my little buddy and he makes me laugh! :)

i live in a village and there are other cockerels around but at one point i had the millefluer d'uccles at home and he is a really noisy cockerel for one so small and he crowed all day long, neighbours complained so he had to go live in the chicken field, now i keep the pekins at home and luckily he is a very quiet cockerel he crows in the morning only about 6- 8 times and thats it for the day.
so i think its down to the individual bird.
love the pics lydia :D

Your chickens are lovely and look like they have a great time!- my mother has problems with her two ex-bats and two massive brahmas trying to get in her house all the time! - they know where she keeps their food :P

I hope you're right girlracer, and he remains a fairly quiet cockerel for me,I would rather keep him than have to re-home him.He was definitely noisier when I first had him, either because he was somewhere new,or,where he was trying to exert his masculine authority over my ex-batts(which didn't work)or because the days were longer and sunnier.I suspect it was a mixture of all three,I shall have to play it by ear-literally  (excuse the naff pun)

Mine, like your mum's pebojuno do like comning into the house,it's where they rush as soon as I open their pop hole. They also realise it's where the food is.......and,if they troop in,I usually produce food to get them back outside.I don't mind them coming in,but,I sort of end up just following them around picking up their visiting cards. If I had more,it would be a nightmare.

Thanks everyone for saying you like the pics,I'm not very good at taking pics,I always think other people's pics look far superior to mine.

Ahh, bless, I like seeing the ex bats in all their tattyness, they just walk around with that 'I know I'm a princess' look  .

Little boy is quite sexy to.

I know lots of people that keep cockerels with neighbours, it can and does work.

Thing is Cuckoomad, they've er got tattier........I got them on the 6th september, and I was chuffed 'cos they weren't oven ready(I'd probably have cried  )and they've got feathers growing through, but are definitely tattier :? .

They have that 'I know I'm a princess look' 'cos they are......aren't they?????

Bertie is lovely, although the ex-batts dont think he's sexy. When he goes up to one and starts treading, they pretend they can't see him and get up and move.He obviously doesn't haven't a good chat up line :o .

They're probably moulting then, they'll look bootiful in a months time.

Want to see some of mine they look like Transylvanian wotsits when they moult!
