Hi, just ensure the humidity is reasonably high in the incubator and dont touch the shell, you need to try to keep them in there as long as possible as if they come out with their yolks unabsorbed it can get messy. I wouldnt worry about offering them a drink. Thats bad news them hatching too early, best bet is to just leave them alone. It is surprising how quickly they can absorb their yolks and absorb all their blood vessels, good luck !

thank you! ive just looked and 1 is half out with just a blood vessel attached to the shell and the other is still curled up in his shell! is there much chance of them surviving ? are they suffering?

Has the duck that is half out absorbed all of its veins? and is just stuck to the membrane? If it comes out and detatches from it's membrane too early it could bleed to death. I just uploaded these pics of one of my most horrendous hatches ive ever had, 1 out of six, but she survived and is a lovely duck now!!

As you can see, she started to hatch and was stuck in the shell for about 2 days and i thought enough is enough. I peeled the shell off the membrane as she was trying to move around now and again so that the weight of the shell didnt detactch her umbilical cord too early, eventually she just wriggled away from the membran. I wouldnt recommend this on ducks hatching early as this duck had pipped and not hatched afer 4 days. This is just to prove to you, there is hope.

And i shouldnt imagine they are suffering. It's only what they do fromm inside the shell, break away all the tiny blood vessels bit by bit, these guys are just doing it early. Its just a waiting game, and a game of testing your paitence- which is tough!! I hate it when i have a hatch i send myself out for the day!!

hi mine did look like your pic, 1 is now out and doing fine in the brooder but the other is still in the inc its out fully but there is still like a ball of jelly plus a blood vessel atached to the shell , should i be taking this off or just leave it be? does any one no where i could find a pic of a chick with yolk sack out just to make sure its this?

thank you for your reply

sorry late to reply. Glad your one is doing well. The jelly like gooey membran can be taken away providing its not attatched to the duckling by the umbilical cord. Their yolks look like a bright orange yolk like they would when you crack open and egg. Hope theyre well.

hi

they are both in the brooder and doing well now :D , thanks for your help and advice. it must have not been the yolk as it wasnt orange! thanks again for your help
