Hi There, I have been breeding chickens for a few years now and am reasonably up with the play on their health and wellbeing. One thing that has really got me baffled (and the vets in the vet clinic I work in) is the liquid that appears underneath where a few of my birds have slept. I notice first the dirty bottom, though this is usually normal looking faeces, but when cleaning out in the mornings from under where some of these birds have nested, there is a very large wet area. This appears to have no consistency but is very wet. I have also noticed that they do a liquid squirt when outside too - clear looking fluid. My birds are wormed regularly. This appears to be on birds that I have brought in and not bred myself. Someone mentioned a stress factor but this has happened after having had them for a month or so. It doesns't appear to be contageous. Does anyone have any idea what this could be please?

Hello, and welcome :) what are you feeding? White watery poo is quite normal- it is the uric acid- chickens as you know don't pee  It could be diet related-how much green food are they getting? If they are acting normal and eating /drinking well, have been wormed and are lice/mite free then i wouldn't worry too much- just keep an eye on it and see if it gets any better/worse.
regards, David

Thanks for that - it is not white - it is a clear liquid. Feeding pellets, mash , wheat, kibbled maize, barley and plenty of greens and household scraps.

Hi, try cutting down on the greens, kibbled maize and barley- just give them pellets ad lib and a handul of wheat - and see if it improves.
regards, David :)
