We are back to do one every day before starting work.

Went into the local Tesco by the bus station and they are giving out handfuls of the tests to everyone who walks through the door. Just wish they would give a mask to the people without as well
 
One Christmas concert tonight, only an hour long and with strict Covid precautions. That's it though, choir participation in the two carol services on Sunday has been abandoned although I'd have felt safer sitting with the small choir than in the body of the church. The services are still going ahead but I won't be there.
 
The village Christmas lunch we have every year has just been cancelled, I can see other restrictions heading our way in the next day or so.

Our carol concert in the Art Nouveau church I posted pics of recently was cancelled and so was the service in the town church. Our holiday in Norfolk 5 Jan carried forward from Jan this year is looking highly unlikely. Yet my daughter is going to her friends in Manchester over Christmas/ New Year and mixing with God knows who, I give up.
 
We’ve just watched Boris giving a statement on TV, looking totally beaten and helpless, even more dishevelled than usual if that’s possible, and saying nothing of any use whatsoever. Simply ‘we are watching carefully to see how things develop and we shan’t hesitate to take action if it becomes necessary.”
He’s probably suffering from acute sleep deprivation from the new baby, but that’s no excuse in his position.
 
I don't see much of British news - how bad are things?
I just got my booster today. There's a huge push on them, and all gp surgeries and most pharmacies are doing them, as well as the mass vaccination centres doing walk-in clinics.

Back at the first lockdown, I had an argument with one of my grandsons over who was the true cause of the spread of the virus. Common sense should be your guide, wear a mask, try to avoid large crowds, we have a friend who does all of this and she was positive yesterday for the new strain...she has to now isolate for 10 days.

I had high hopes for Boris, but he does look burnt out over the last few days, mind you, I wouldn't want his job for all the tea in China.

A friend says she was in a shop yesterday where a woman was loudly telling everyone that she has covid, and walked along the checkout queue, deliberately touching everyone in the queue. Nothing you can do with some people. I think most people are being sensible. We now have restrictions on pubs, nightclubs and all indoor entertainment, which have to close by 8pm and when open, are limited to 50% capacity. However, thousands of Christmas parties had already been cancelled. I think most people are being careful. But there will always be the few.

Same on our buses, non maskers etc, because it's all a conspiracy. OH works with someone who's neighbour's are all anti vaxer's their son caught it and went to school, the whole class went down with it including her daughter. Some people are just impervious to it all. A neighbour of ours went to his brother in laws 50th birthday bash on Saturday, " if you catch it, it's only the sniffles, lot of fuss about nothing"

We come under Havering council which has one of the highest vaccination rates in the country, yet the neighbouring borough Redbridge, only 30% have had the first dose, Tower Hamlets it's only 18%.

Lakeside shopping centre was quiet at the weekend, but queues into car parks today, no mask enforcement in the centre. People are getting on the buses then they pull the masks down under their chin, as though our buses have some sort of Covid annihilation system in force.

We have a weeks holiday in Norfolk booked for 5 Jan, postponed from Jan this year, don't think it is going to happen somehow.
 
There's actually a very high rate of compliance here. Around 95% of the population is fully vaxxed - where I live, it's 99.5%! Numbers are still very high and increasing, but hospitalisations, icu cases and deaths are quite low, considering

A friend of ours had to travel to Austria for her sisters funeral, they only went for 4 days, should have come home yesterday, but she tested positive in the morning. She said the only plus is all her kids will have to cook their own Christmas dinner now.
Always good to look on the bright side
 
Oh, that's awful for them!
Just saw on the news that several big pubs around the country have closed until after Christmas. They felt the risk not only fir customers, but for their own staff was too great.
