Coronavirus

What's wrong with the forum? I keep trying to post, get most of the way through typing a message & it just disappears???

I'm in 2 minds about having a booster jab. I can't help but think that front line health workers in Africa should be fully vaccinated via the Covax programme before I have a third jab. New vaccine resistant variants are most likely to appear in places where people haven't been vaccinated, so I'd rather they got vaccinated first...

Yes - it would be good if the world worked like that, wouldn’t it? But on the other hand, if you have the jab when it’s offered, it will benefit not only you, but your family and community, and if you don’t take it, it won’t go to Africa instead, will it? Maybe there is an aid programme we could send the price of a vaccination to, in gratitude for getting it free ourselves?

Unicef have a campaign running called "Get a vaccine, give a vaccine" asking people who have been vaccinated to donate towards vaccination in third world countries.

More on sharing vaccines; https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/24/uk-falling-behind-most-g7-countries-in-sharing-covid-vaccines-figures-show

And here’s how to do it;

Thanks, LadyA!

[emoji24] I'm off to get my first covid test today. I'm fully vaxxed, but woke this morning with an awful sore throat and cough. 99.99% sure it's not covid, just my annual bout of whatever this bug is. I haven't been anywhere to catch covid - no bars, restaurants, cafés or anything, not even a bus! There's the remote possibility I suppose that I picked it up passing someone in the supermarket? Unlikely though. But anyway, better safe than sorry. And besides if I need to see a doctor about this cough, they won't see me unless I've had a clear pcr test.
Sigh.
On the bright side though - I go in to do care for mum every evening and several mornings a week, a round trip 1 hour drive. Can't go at the moment, so others will need to step up.

All the best LadyA. Our neighbouring farmer and his wife had exactly the same symptoms as you, turned out to be a nasty cold doing the rounds. Hopefully that's what this is. Not that you want that either, but at least it is the lesser of two evils

Was in and out of the drive through test centre really quickly. Golly though that was uncomfortable! My eye is still watering an hour later!

Yes, you feel very 'alive' with super clear sinuses don't you after a test! Both my mother and I had the same reaction which was to lean backwards in the chair to try to escape...

The received wisdom is that there are a lot more colds/flu about this year as most of us escaped them last year, both my mother and I can testify to this, we've both had nasty bugs although we live in different countries, along with another friend who was so ill he really did think he had covid, although luckily he didn't.

As it happens, I was with my gp recently for routine stuff, and she said there's an insane number and variety of respiratory bugs going the rounds, and they're hitting harder, because we didn't encounter anything much last year.

Covid test was negative, thankfully! I'm still coughing my guts up. And my voice has disappeared completely. Waiting on a callback from docs now to see if I need antibiotics and/or steroids again.

On the plus side - I was trying to pass the time yesterday, so baked a batch of mince pies. And as I was isolating - I couldn't share them with anyone! [emoji23][emoji39][emoji39]

The sacrifices you have to make, Lady A :-)
I know - but somebody's got to step up and do it! [emoji23]

My voice is more or less completely gone! Got a phone consultation with a doctor, and now have hefty antibiotics to take. On the way home from collecting them, I got such an awful fit of coughing, I had to pull in - I thought i was going to choke with it! Hopefully, the antibiotics will work swiftly.

I hope you feel better soon LadyA - it sounds really nasty.

Boy, do I miss mince pies!

No mincemeat there? It's quite easy to make. I don't make my own mincemeat, because you end up with vast quantities.

We listened to Boris’ latest news conference yesterday - on the one hand announcing several countries back on the red list because of Omicron, on the other being half hearted about face coverings whilst assuring everyone that if we go on as we are, with only 50,000 cases per day, this Christmas will be a lot better than the last one. Time he went to live at Peppa Pig World, I think, and leave running the country to proper grownups. BBC interviewed a woman after the news briefing who was vehement about what actually should be done - but she was cut off in mid flow.

Thanks to Margaid for this one!
