Our new lady Cookie has started sitting on her eggs.

She issues warnings to the other girls and the boy and sits on the eggs most of the time. But i have some questions.

She sits on them most of the time but gets up for between 15-45 minutes at a time to collect stuff for the nest and to eat, will the eggs be okay?

How long will it take for her to naturally incubate?

When will she start turning them?

If they hatch, should we move her and her babies to another cage?

Can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks so much

How long will it take for her to naturally incubate? 18 days for coturnix

When will she start turning them? once shes laid a clutch, she'll be moving them around under her

If they hatch, should we move her and her babies to another cage? Not sure on this one, but I would keep seperate if she was a broody chicken, as the other girls may attack the babies.

Can anyone give me any advice?

thanks so much ncotb, we just want to make sure she gets everything she needs for this time.

She's only about 3 months old and a Chinese Painted Quail. Our second youngest sat on them for a while today whilst Cookie went foraging so i think she now has a hatching partner. :)

Just checked my book, CPQs are 16 days to hatch - hope it all goes well for you :-)17

Thanks Ncotb, we've actually had an interesting development. Our second youngest female, Izzy, sits on the eggs when Cookie needs a break now. It's like they are tag teaming the eggs. :) Its amazing. :D
