Hi Everyone , Im rather worried about my little Amber Netty . Shes been really lethagic and lstless since yesteday afternoon, I thought a good nights sleep might sort her out , but when they all went to bed last night she just plopped herself down on the floor of the coop to sleep , I put her in a nest box as I thouht she might get draughty but didnt want her to struggle getting off perch in morning . This mornng shes not any better, shes managed to get herself out of the house, but hadnt moved much away from it before plopping herself down again , I thin she has watery faeces aand when I pich her up she doesnt struggle at aall or make a noise , in fact she seems practically mute. She does join in when I bring out some food with poultry spice and garlic in , Ive also addd cider vinegar and garlic to water , Im really worried about her, please , any advice would be gratefully received. Im thinking of taking her to vets this afternoon if theres no improvement! Thanks All. CC

I would take her to the vets- she may have an infection- it's hard to say without seeing her- the vet will know best- good luck and let us know how she goes.
regards, David

Just returned from vet £32, and lighter he reckons it either peritonitus or shes egg bound (higher up)Shes been given calcium , petroleum jelly to try and help potentially blocked egg along, and anti biotic.... which means I cant eat her eggs for 4 weeks and therefore have to keep her seperate from the others!!This is a problem as I onle have one coop and although I have a shed , Ive no idea if its predator proof ?! Any thoughts and a make shift pen ? I have a dog cage that I use for the sin bin for the broodies , I guess I could put her in that in the house at night, with windows open ... not really ideal tho! EEk! This could be seriously problematic!Ive had her sat on my lap drinking water with cider vinegar and garlic from a syringe , and shes currently forcing down some porridge with garlic nettle poultry spce and actimel with someolive oil ... LOL !! Talk about pampered chook , shes having a steam in the sauna ... I mean bathroom ! shes going back to vet tomorro so will let you know how it goes.CC

I kept my injured hen in a large dog cage in the bedroom for a week!!!!

There really is no reason why you should not eat her eggs in your household if no-one is generally allergic to antibiotics. What you mustn't do is pass them on to anyone else.

Really Chuck ?! Thats interesting ?! Thinking about it , I seem to remember reading somewhere that commercially reared livestock, chickens included , tended to be pumped full of anti biotics .... how would that work out then for people with allergies ?! Im a bit confused , I actually bake for a living using my girls eggs so I guess I should be careful anyway ! Wll she seems almost back to her old self now ... not laying again yet tho ;o( ... guess Ill know shes fully better when she does ! Chicken in the bedroom eh ?! Not sure how my other half wouldve felt about that  I almost had her in the spare room downtairs though ... Im worried after 4 weeks she'll have forgotten what perches are for ! Thanks Again everyone! CC
