Chirping eggs

What lovely strong chickens Tygresek. I see what you mean by very blue legs -is it you dipping them in ink to have a joke on us? I painted a room that colour a few weeks back.

Wonderful! I can't believe how they have grown, seems like last week they were just chicks! :D Will you hatching any more Tyg?

I can't belive either, left them for 1 week(been in Spain for a change)and had grown alot, all waight above 600g some of them even almosr 700g.I gues they teenagers now, full of misschif.
I still like to have few more Faverolles from you,but have to postpone any hatching unfortunetly,we going to rebuild our house this year and just realized it will be a total nightmare to bring up the' babies' as to much mess will happend around. How are you latest chicks which I had seened on the forum, they simular age as mine. Are you traveling somtimes to london or close by?I could have 2 of them nd integrate them toghether to me egsisting flock, already ordered a new cop for them.

Mine january chicks getting bigger, their voices are changing too,but young cocrell keeps his beak shut for the moment. They live now with the big hens (I had separeted for them small area inside their run):)20120331_99_1.jpg20120331_99_11.jpg20120331_99_14.jpg

Well done - And it looks as though you got all pullets from my eggs?

Early maturing for quick laying is one of the characteristics I am breeding for, as the birds which come into production early tend to be the best layers. Those birds which are slow to mature generally give a poor account of themselves in the nest box.

In general my pullets come into lay around the 20 -24 week mark, though late hatch chicks which grow out over the winter months will always be slower.

My fastest pullet to lay so far was just over 18 weeks old, and my best 2 year old hen this year is laying around 5 to 6 eggs a week all extra large and colour 5 to 6+ on the Marans egg colour chart. So dark eggshell colour doesn't necessarily mean poor egg production as is often stated.

I am very pleased with the flock, but I have found that they are proving difficult to hatch. The received wisdom on this is that the eggs from the darker layers are retained in the egg tract to beyond the point of viability for restarting after laying and cooling (which has been found to be necessary).

A normal time for a hen to produce an egg is 25 hours, but a couple of extra hours means one or even two more cell splits, but on the positive side the slowness through the egg tract means a darker shell colour, as the hen has longer to "paint" the pigment on.

I may have some spare pullet growers available later in the season at £15 each if anyone is interested but they will need to be collected from Worcestershire. There may also be Cream Legbar pullets at the same price

I just love that pic of them all on the perch, Tyg - it would make a wonderful greetings card. How did you manage to get them to stay still whilst you took it/ I've tried and treid to catch mine all on the perch but they jump down as soon as they see me in case anything interesting is about to happen that they mustn't miss!

So far I had 2 eggs each from Marans and second pullet 'paints ' her eggs more than the first. After more training the second finally laid in the nest box today but made a hole in it  her eggs also larger then the first ,she laid 40gram first egg and 47 gram the second egg.To compare the first laid 37gram first egg and 41 the second but she have larger comb than second pullet.
Yes I have got all pullets from yours eggs.20120608_99.jpg20120608_99_1.jpg

My Marans pulled laid 2 eggs in 1 go.She synchronized egg laing with hen in next nest box as both did it at the same time
