Perky is a 4 year old Bovans Goldline. She has never been a good layer. She started laying rubbery yolks. The Vet give her an implant to stop her laying. This worked for 6 months. She did not get rid of any material in this time . She moulted then come back in to lay. Now she is swollen. She did not act like a layer nor go in the nest box. She must have give up trying to lay it. The Vet said Oxytocin nor a calcium injection would help as it is a solid mass. She is eating ok. It is affecting her breathing. It must be pushing on her airsacs. I have had the operation done twice before and it did not work, on other Chickens. I won't put her through that at her age. The Vets can't help. They have learnt alot from me and my chickens. I know eventually i will have to let her go. Is there anything i can do to help break up the material so she can pass it naturally not with chemicals. I masssage her abdomen and sit her in hot water. I would love to help her. She is enjoying life at the moment. She stands sometimes with her eyes closed. I hope another egg is not being laid. When Chickens are sick or stressed they go off lay. Why is it when they lay internally they keep laying? I would appreciate any help. Maureen.
