I've had a search through the forum and Poultry keeper.com but can't find what I'm looking for. Heidi, my Light Sussex, has been producing runny black poos for a while & occasional watery ones. She's also underweight (probably as a result of the runny poos).
I wormed all of the girls with Flubenvet a few weeks ago but it doesn't appear to have made a difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions? She's eating and drinking as usual & not showing any lethargy...
I'm going to treat all of the girls to a strawberry Yeo Valley yogurt (I don't like the strawberry one!) in the hope that it'll boost her good bacteria, but do any of you know what the problem might be?

All the best,
I've maiden.

Black and runny (I'm imagining like thin black watercolour paint?) sounds peculiar. Can you post a picture?
Mine have produced small black/brownish pellet like bits in clear watery poop when they have had egg laying issues (but that typically had some yellow bits too) and normal but very black poops when they've eaten peat potting compost.

...
Going to seem like a wild coincidence but I brought one of mine inside this evening to give her some food on her own (been worried that she doesn’t eat much) and she produced this:

Happen to know she ate a lot of soil today for some reason (as if she was getting something she lacked from it.) Anyway - just wondered if it looked the same.

Unfortunately black poo indicates internal bleeding Icemaiden, so it doesn't sound too good for her. My preference is for Avipro Avian, because yoghurt is indigestible to chickens I've read, although they will pick up the probiotics, which are of unknown quantity though.

Dear Chris & Rick,
Thanks for your replies. Her poos are either literally like water or are black & diahorreah like. I must admit that I was wondering about internal bleeding, but hoping that I'm wrong.
The strawberry Yeo Valley does seem to have firmed things up a little, but her poos are still blackish & her comb resolutely pink (though it is 1/4 to December...)

I guess that time will tell. At least she still seems happy enough, though of course with hens you can never be sure how much is an act.

All the best,
Icemaiden.
